Hi hope your all well :) I'm going to try and keep this as simple as possible, started keppra in 2010 after diagnosis, everything was fine and I was seizure free up until around november last year, my contraceptive pill was changed against my will which seems to of opened the gates for absences mainly, later in the month a bus I was on had to 'slam on' to avoid an accident and I hit my head on the metal pole in front (no bruising or anythin) but afterwards I had a myoclonic jerk, which I haven't had since diagnosis, I had an appointment with my epilepsy nurse who highered my keppra from 1000mg a day to 1250 a day to see if it helped any, the seizures continued to worsen and I keep gettin 'hell headaches' as iv took to name them, they are frontal and leave me in agony and feeling sick half the time, I had a appointment with my neurology consultant earlier this month who expressed his concerns about seizure control as its effecting everything, and following his advice my meds got highered to 1500mg per day, now this was only around 2 weeks ago and I'm still havin seizures and most days feel worse than ever, today hasn't been too bad an so far I haven't had a single grand mal, does anyone experience these head aches? Its like something is pushing against the front of my head and temples?! Have any of you had a breakthrough in seizures and how long did it take to settle them again sticking with same meds but higher dose? Pretty irritated with it all now, any advice would be amazing, oh by the way I have JME and I'm 22! X

I don't know if changing your contraceptive may have anything to do with it or not? I was on Depo-Provera (the shot) before and after I was diagnosed with epilepsy and it never caused any problems. I had a hysterectomy a little over a year ago and since being off of birth control it's never changed the amount of seizures I had.

I was taking steroids for problems I was having and started having seizures like crazy. Really didn't put two and two together until I stopped taking it then started again after a few months. So I know the steroids were bringing on the seizures. I don't know if it was reacting to one of the meds that I was taking or if steroids just caused seizures for me?

I'd try talking to they dr about getting back on the birth control that you were on. If you explain to him that you are having more seizures since it has been changed then there is a good possibility the switch will be made.

Iv been back on my origional pill (microgynon) since the end of november, I discussed this with neurologist and he said it may just be the slightest difference in hormones in them, I was ment to say that in the first post sorry. The connection was made straight away as the first time I took the other pill (levest) it brought out my absences which was followed by myoclonic jerks after the bus incident. I guess I'm just at a loss, how long did it take to get your seizures back under control after you finished the steroid course? Iv had no injuries since november but the seizures are still continuing this is about two weeks after the dose has been highered again, thanks for your reply xx

I wouldn't reccomend depo- provero shot when I got one I was in pain like crazy for hours until it took affect.

I was getting steroid shots in my back twice a month for a few months. I had to cancel one of the appts and my seizures went back to normal. Still having them but not as often or as bad. I can't remember exactly how long it took, probably two weeks to a month before we put two and two together.

I did take steroid pills this summer because I had poison ivy VERY bad. I was actually scratching my skin off. The dr told me he could give me some sort of cream to use but it would take about a month or longer for it to get rid of the poison ivy. He said if I took the pills it would go away in about a week. I decided that I'd deal with the seizures to keep the skin on my hands. The pills actually didn't effect my seizures though.

That's really weird, I had no problems when I was on it. The spot where I got the shot was a little sore but that was the only thing. I got 1 shot every 4 months.

My gyno suggested I go on it because my periods were horrible. Very heavy, cramps that were so painful that I can't even begin to describe and they were irregular. Even when I went on the pill things were pretty much the same. My periods became a little more regular, a good bit of spotting though. Going on the Depo was the best thing that I did.
