I experience REM a lot while awake, it is quite strange and have yet to meet another person who can do it. I can actually do it by putting myself into a petitmal then allowing it to take complete control. I was wondering if anyone else here has experienced eye shaking and jerking during petit mal and when they come back they feel as though they had just woken up from a nap. I have been wanting to do some testing with this and see if I could utilize this as a way to re-energize my body during a long work day but was not sure if putting myself into seizures purposely for an extended period of time would be wise. The longest I have done with while having REM is about 30 seconds or so but it is quite interesting.

If your wondering what I am talking about I will explain in detail below what I do and how I feel.

First, I clear my mind and not focus on anything. Then I remove focus from my eyes, this is where my petitmal typically starts to kick in and I can make the choice to fight it or go with it. If I fight my vision will bounce in and out for a bit, usually until I give my head a good shake and focus onto something. But if I let myself go further into it and not try and resist then I start to get completely unfocused and everything is a big blur. While everything is a big blur my eyes will start bouncing back and forth. While I can still see some things while doing it I am told that they move at an incredibly fast rate. I then have to fight my eyes from bouncing so I can focus on something to get out of the seizure. The entire time in REM I lack control of my body and don't really have any sensation.

Has anyone else experienced this?

It doesnt sound like REM to me. It sounds like Nystygmus. REM happens during sleep. Nystgmas can be a side effect of medication, or the seizure themselves.

"ACQUIRED NYSTAGMUS

Inner ear disorders such as labyrinthitis or Meniere's disease can lead to acquired nystagmus. However, the most common cause is probably toxic -- certain drugs or medication, including Dilantin (an antiseizure medication), alcohol intoxication, or any sedating medicines can harm the labyrinth"

I was on dilantin and it does seem to be the same type of movement but it only happens during the deepest parts of my petite mal seizures when I am really out of it and I literally feel like I have just woken up when done. I was wondering if maybe it was possible that I was putting my brain into a sleep like state while still awake due to the seizure.

The Nystagmus does seem to be a fitting diagnosis though.

sadly, probably not. I feel pretty out of it during my simple partials, and the complex partials, where I still have some small amount of awareness. But the deepest part of a seizure can make things twich, like arms legs, torso, eyes etc.

Its probably best that you dont continue to purposely have these seizures as that could lead to kindling (where you brain remembers how to seize) which could lead to Non convulsive status, or even convulsive seizures.
