Hello everyone :)

Soooo, my seizure free streak broke today. Before this morning I was seizure free during the day for 31 days!!!! I cant even believe that. It makes me so happy. However, in my art history class today I had 2 seizures :( Waaaa!!! I think the stress of school makes me have them. What do you guys do to relieve stress?

Janellie

Stress, 9 times out of 10, will bring on seizures for me. The more stressful something is I'll have more and they are usually pretty bad. My grandfather is in the hospital right now and I've been having them a good bit.

To try to get rid of stress I try not to think about what's causing the stress. Sometimes I'll put my headphones in and do some serious cleaning in the house. Moping the floors, scrubbing the bathtub, scrubbing the fridge down or taking everything out of the cupboards and wiping them clean. This may not sound like fun but it gets my mind off of what's going on.

I get a good laugh about it too because I sing along with the songs while I'm cleaning. I'm not a good singer an forget half the words to the songs most of the time. My husband will make fun of me for this. Laughing is a good stress reliever too.

If you find other things out I'd love to hear them!

For stress releif I try to get plenty of sleep (I use 2mg Klonipin) and work out at the gym several days a week. That means going to sleep earlier than I like so that I can get up and hit the gym before work. I also try to reward myself with and 10-15 minute hydro-massage after I finish my workout.

I have also almost completely stopped drinking.

Aside from getting a good night's sleep, I relieve general stress by taking daily walks (weather permitting). If there's a particular stress on my plate, I try to take a few minutes a day just to be still and breathe. It can give me a helpful perspective on whatever's bugging me.

I walk my dog a lot , and listen to my music on the computer and I exercise.

I've never been good with dealing with stress & it was always one of my main seizure triggers. I also tend to over think little things to much which also causes stress.
I have a word document saved on my computer which I type in when I am really stressed or over thinking things. Usually once I get what is worrying me out of my head & into my journal I feel a lot better.
I also like to go for walks as it is the time when I really think about things, quite often if I have been stressed about something I have grabbed my MP3 player & gone for a long walk.

January 15th would have been a month free without a seizure for me, and that streak broke on Jan 14th. I actually have gone almost two months without a seizure, but each time I get close, my seizures pull me back in.

To relieve stress I like to play video games, it's get's my mind off of things or watch a soap opera so I can see other lives that are all over the place, and like what CQ:) said, writing in a journal can be very helpful.

I keep a journal on my computer in a folder. Each entry has it's own word document with a number, title and a date, i.e #1 - Being Free, 1/20/2014.

What I like to do sometimes is read 5 different entries in a row to see how my feelings go up and down, it feels good to see how you are improving with self control or to see how you need to change for the better.

I started yoga back in november. it is a very relaxing more meditation type yoga. Its wonderful for stress relief

Janellie8, sorry for you and your period of going seizure free ending. Stress is a rough one and with those who have to deal with seizure medication... ouch, would we really want to try another medication to help? Personally, I opt not to go that route. Aside from another medication though to relieve stress, possibly consider what Dr. Oz brings forward:

I do have my fingers crossed for ya...

All of the above! Oh and oddly talking to my dog even though half the times he's snoring without a care in the world :) he stays so close when I have seizures or I start messing the house up with my 3 year old daughter by doing arts and crafts :) x

Thanks you guys!! I might have to try some of your ideas :) because mine aren't working. have a wonderful day! :D

Hugs,
Janellie :)

My streak was broken on January 15. I hadn't had a real seizure since August. I did have 3 in October, but that was when I was taken off my meds for my video eeg. This time I ended up in the ER and got 3 staples to close a head wound. I had nothing unusual going on in my life so no clue why this happened again.

It sucks when you think you're doing so good and then...BAMM!!! Seizure happens :( Hope you're doing better though :)

Hugs,
Janellie :)
