I have both dystonia and seizures. In the past 3 months my face has become affected by either episodes of dystonia or some type of seizure causing my facial muscles to very strong tense or "clench", strong enough to force my eyes closed. The episodes are very random (I've had 2 in a week at times, or gone as long as 3-4 weeks between them), and last no more than 30 seconds.

Has anyone had seizures affect their face exclusively during a partial seizure (even if generally your seizures affect only other areas of your body)? Anyone here with dystonia or other non-seizure neurological conditions that affects their face?

Any chance it's a side effect of the Aptiom? If so, it would be rare, but the carbamezapine-related meds can sometimes be problematic for dystonia.

I know of a few side effects of Aptiom, but was not aware of that one. I'll be checking in with the neurologist soon, and will definitely ask if another medication would be more appropriate given that this "face clenching" is new.
