So i went to a work out class at gym yesterday, and was having a conversation with another lady when I stopped mid sentence. I could not get my words out, and did not remember what I was talking about. My words were garbled. I was conciously aware that she was asking me if I was alright. I could not hear anything but her voice, but could not respond. I felt panicked, and left mumbling that I needed to call my husband. Lasted about 15 seconds. TC is my seizure of choice (been a year). I have been reading about the different seizures, and am not sure how to label this one. I went to see my GP today and he mentioned absence seizure, or a breakthrough. Then told me to see a neurologist (yawn).
I remember this years ago before I was diagnosed, when I thought I was nuts. So he upped my dilantin a couple of ML. Whatever, I guess I ought to see a new neuro, and have a few tests done, except that our insurance changed with higher premiums and sucky coverage. The only residual of this was a headache and being tired. Since Satan has decided to open up shop down here in the deep south, the heat (electrolytes) are a big trigger for me. Looking back, I would say over half my seizures are in the hot months. I have tried to stay hydrated, but it is hard to beat the heat unless I become home bound, and that's not happening.

im sorry you had a seizure , and i feel your pain with the crappy doctor situation , it SUCKS! i've definitely noticed heat being a trigger for me over the years as well , hopefully this heat will let up for you all in the south SOON ! in the mean time take care of yourself & hopefully that will be the last !

Thank you

lovemyladybug - for your sentiment. It lifts my spirits, now if the temp. would just go down!! The drought is making it worse, and so far no relief in sight. The low tonight is in the 80's. So, I will continue to be mostly a hermit. At least the headache is gone now, and I can think a little clearer. Take care! :)

Any chance the lights at the gym might have played a trigger role? Often they are fluorescents.

I hope you are feeling better today.

Hope you're feeling better today. I know it sucks when you think you've got things under control and something like that happens. Maybe Nakamova is right, could there have been a trigger at the gym?

good morning Nakamova, CrunchyFrog

Thanks for the reply! I could say that lights have not been a trigger for me in the past, but all bets are off I suppose when it comes to E. I suppose this is like an elimination diet, going back through my mind and eliminating what might be a trigger. After years of all this fun, I would have to say that the heat is chief instigator. I keep my house really cool, and anytime I change that environment, as in the gym where it is sub par for A/C. Also, last week I went to an Astros game, and walked in the heat. The next night we walked around downtown in the heat, and went to a club to hear a band where, again it was hot. I think it was an accumulative affect, since we are having record heat here in the south. That is my assessment so far. In the past this has been my experience with seizures and triggers.

Thanks for the input. This site has become my salvation for coming to terms (sometimes) with what has been a life long struggle to adapt. I have started telling people about my E. for the first time in my life, not to invoke sympathy but more to educate. The reaction is better that I anticipated, for the most part. It gives me peace of mind to some extent.

That's terrific! A win-win.

I hope you can stay cool. Do you carry a water bottle around with you to hydrate? I have one in my bag that looks like a hip flask -- and I sip water from it when I'm out and about.

Nakamova

You are right it is a win win situation to tell people about the E.!! Liberating.
I am well known for carrying water with me every where I go. It is necessary this time of year, especially for those of us with sensitive conditions. Just have to have the balance between hydrating and not flushing too much medication out of the system. I try to be practical w/o being fanatical. Thanks for your input, always appreciate it!

make sure you drink plenty of water too
it is hot
I've had a bad couple days too though
I wondered today if the barometric pressure might have an effect on triggering seizures

:ponder: Barometric pressure...hmm had not thought about that one. I have quit working in the yard, about probably 8 to 10 years ago. Just not worth the risk. I feel slower today than usual since upping the dilantin, my eyes are doing the 2 step!! That is a dance we do down in the south here, or maybe up north too. don't know!

hey I'm in Dallas - I know what the twostep is... it's a Texas Lotto scratch-off ticket, right? ;)

your experiences sound very familiar to me really - (except the working out at a gym part)

but I'm on Phenytoin/Dilantin as well and I've had the type of seizure you'd mentioned in the first post

I've noticed them while alone and I think I've had them while being around people but I think I've adapted to conceal them in a way or they/I just go unnoticed
at least I've wondered about that
that may not be a possibility, to have that type of conscious realization while coming out of the seizure state - to segue the behavior into a conscious behavior
- but since having definite T/C seizures within the past several years, and learning about my epilepsy I've identified some (what I'll guess to be) simple partial seizures

yep, lotto and the dance! If I really sat sown, I think I have had several different types through the years (40 years) before and after diagnoses. If I had as much money as time on my hands I would investigate every aspect of these "spells" as my Mother called them.

Im no doctor, but it sounds like a simple partial or an absence seizure. Did any part of your body go numb?

BigWill

Hello! I had no numbness or tingling, only a headache afterwards and it was for about 10 seconds that I was in a altered state of mind and could not express my words.

When I was in H.S. back in the early seventies, I remember having both those symptoms along with weird eyesight, that would last a few minutes. Tunnel vision with people having small heads, or shrunken.
