Hi Everyone..

I'm not sure how it is for most other people here, but I miss more work time than anyone in my office. And I always feel bad about it, even if I've had a tc overnight and I stayed at home. Or if I left early from work because I was feeling activity in my brain.

My boss seems supportive about it, but what choice does he have? Is he going to say - no, you have to be here?

So okay, it can be accepted that I'll stay home after a seizure, or when I feel one coming on soon. But what about a situation where you need to stay home to prevent one?

I barely slept sunday night - i laid in bed with my eyes open and my heartburn eating me up. I had about 2 hours sleep. I should have stayed home and tried to keep sleeping in the morning. But I went to work anyways, and I felt absolutely terrible. I left early, came home, fell asleep and had a tc.

I realize this has taken me a while to get to the point. What is your opinion on staying home from work to potentially prevent a seizure from happening?

Thanks!

Chris

First off, it sucks having a tonic clonic after going so long, so uber hugs to you for that ****HUGS****

Second, i don't know how to answer that second part, as I dont think its crossed my mind. I have always been the type of person to just stick it out and go in to work, before seizures I have gone in to work while feeling faint or fainting. throwing up, fever, chills and general ick. asthma attack like events *still no word on if I do actually have it. its just an assumption now* But I would go in.

And when I started having seizures and didnt tell anyone and had yet to be to the doctors, I would go in any way. I didnt want anyone fidning out or questioning my absences.

And as for now, I have a hard enough time leaving work for activity. I feel embarrassed that "there is something wrong with me" so I stay. and one of these days that will turn out to be an even more embarrassing mistake.

But I guess, you know your body best, and if it needs to rest, then it need to rest. I gues it owuld be the smae thing as someon etaking a stress day, or just a sleep in day because of over exhaustion?

tell me about it! I have been seizure free until last night. I have been battling back and forth trying to get my insurance to approve a prior authorization for over two weeks. All I get is the run-around and sir, that is not our department, my hands are tied. On my way to work the simplest things were so emotional bringing tears to my eyes. I pretty much laid in bed resting all night. I am at work, but can't do it, I just can't. I hate to be a burden and not get my jobs done. I enjoy my work.

If you're going to miss a day by having a seizure, then you might as well miss a day to NOT have a seizure. Either way you miss a day of work, but with the latter you feel a whole lot better.

If you didn't get any sleep at all the night before, I'd call work in the monrning and tell them and then stay home.

I hope you get some better rest soon. What caused the heartburn?

I got lucky with the last group of people I worked with. My supervisor was a retired hospital administrator...lol. We struck a deal: no driving, if I had a seizure-don't come in, if I felt wonky in anyway- let her know and she'd get me home, if I felt wonky in the morning-don't come in. TUrned out my seizures weren't ever an issue until right before I left but my migraines became downright brutal...same rules applied though. Info about my E was kept within management, HR and the medical staff.

My office is good about it too. I ask to go home when I'm feeling wonky and never go in if I'm having partials. My boss even insisted on driving me home yesterday. It's a small office so everyone knows about it. Part of me would rather keep it between my bosses and I, but I suppose it was best to tell everyone what to do if I had a TC at work. I don't want to end up with a spoon in my mouth.

I did get a lot of rest yesterday and last night. Thanks everyone.

I still have no idea what caused the heartburn. I usually only get it after very spicy food, but the night before I had a greek salad with pita bread. ??

greek salad is still pretty acidic. plus if you had onions in it. It always gives me heartburn. and its my favourite salad

hmm... good point Rae. That could have done it. My favorite salad too. Especially from Nikos - just so everyone knows, Nikos is a superb Greek restaurant here in lovely Winnipeg. The best Gyros I've ever tried.

Best Gyros for sure, But the best greek salad is from Alexis Grill on portage/kennedy!

Eating late at night (too close to bed time), overeating or drinking a lot of fluids on top of a full stomach can all make for restless sleep.
