Seizures over and over and over and over...at night though, should I be worried?

Hello everyone!

Quick question here...
As soon as I fall asleep, I have been having partial seizures over and over and over and over. I finally fell asleep at 5am this morning because it wouldn't stop. Should I be worried? I feel completely fine after. I don't know if this might be normal and common with some people. I did take an allergy pill that might have affected my meds and made me have them for as long as I did. They have never kept me up that long before. What is wrong with me!!

Hi Janellie! Actually, having any type of seizure over and over and over is not really a good thing. As you know, I continue to have partial seizures, but, of the ones that are big enough for me to really count as a seizure, I have never had more than about 10 per day, and it's usually way less than that. In 2012 I had an average of just over one per day, but there were periods when I would have like 6 or 7 per day for a while, then go a few days or a week with none at all. So far this year I am about at 180 of the ones big enough for me to write down. Anyhow, that's sort of my norm, but I think you should definitely try to get your seizures as well-controlled as possible to minimize any long-term damage they might cause you.
As for the allergy pill, it doesn't necessarily sound like that would be it, but you never know with meds. Are you keeping a journal, or a record on your calendar, of the seizures you have and what time you have them? Also write down if you've taken other meds, if you're sick or stressed, if it's "that time of the month" or whatever. All of those things can change your seizure pattern.

I would say it's not ideal to have seizures over and over, even if you feel okay now. At the very least, it's messing with your sleep which can have downstream effects on your health. At worst, the more your brain seizes, the more likely it is to seize in the future. Have you let your neuro know?

What kind of allergy pill did you take? Allergy medications that contain antihistamines and decongestants can lower seizure threshold.

I've never really had a seizure over and over like what you said, but once, when i was on Keppra, after a seizure, my arm was limp and numb for a few days. So numb, when i decided to go to the ER, i couldn't get the key to my car into the keyhole with my hand, even with the aid of my good hand. At the ER, i had to wait for like 2 hrs before someone was able to look at me. My normal Nuoro was not there, so another doc told the ER person to have me reduce Keppra and start me on Dilantin. Dilantin was even worse for me, but that is another long story. What type of meds are you on?

I only take one medication for my seizures, since i do not like mixing drugs. Bad enough to know how one drugs reacts with ones body, than to have 2 or 3 different ones working you over. My personal opinion. It does sound like your other med might be what caused, it. But who know, i'm not a doc.

It's not good for you to have a lot of seizures and that's not normal.Have you talked to your neuro?
I take allergy medicine but it's prescription and it's never caused any problem.

Yeah I know what you mean when they go away for a few days maybe just maybe even a week. Just recently I have started to write them down, not the times though. They always happen just before bed time though. Thanks so much! Hope your Christmas is great

I have let her know and she really didn't say much about it. I took Loratadine... I am not sure if that had an effect on me, but for now I think it did.

Sorry about your numb arm! Sounds terrible. I have never been numb from a seizure so I cant relate to that. Right now I am on Tegretol and this is my second week on Lamictal. Since I have been on Lamictal I have noticed my seizures being a little more intense and painful. I think you might be right, this might be the cause. And thank you so much, I will try and sleep well tonight! (Even though I have a bad feeling about tonight).

Yes I have actually mentioned this to my neurologist but she didn't elaborate on that much Next time I see her I will definatly bring it up again. Thanks!
