No, the company I work for there is 3-4 people in each house. It's adults with cerebral palsy, downs syndrome, autism, general non-specific learning disabilities. The idea is that they become as independent as possible whilst still having a staff presence. It just so happens that rather a large percentage of them also have epilepsy. The staff all have epilepsy training but they get basic recognition of seizures and first aid. Most seem to think that pills fix everything and have no debilitating side effects and that as soon as a person gets up from a seizure then they're fine. I've been doing a little educating of my own.

Hi nancym45,
I agree - hang in there - I didn't retire till I worked 23 years - there's no reason why you shouldn't work! John S

someone tell me about the eeg,i was booked ,but was told, just come,,no meds(i dont have any)plus no hair product, thats it!!!I dont want to deal w/this until i am on holidays,so i am rebooking for then, but as was previously mentioned, shouldn"t it be done in a tired state w/ no caffeine, etc. to be successful? will it show that i had a seizure in my previous sleep,as no proper prep was done for the test???Ive never had one before,help...

The EEG can only pick up what is happening during the test. That means it can't pick up anything that's happening before or after the test. Do you know how long the test will be?

If there's no special instructions, for example to stay up all night then I'd assume you wouldn't need to.

the no hair products thing is so that the leads will stick to your head. you can wash your hair before hand, just don't use any styling sprays, gels, creams etc.

nope it was pretty simple instructions and i was told it'd take an hr. they are trying to provoke a seizure i take it ? I thought through this they could tell if u had a seizure, omg i dont know

They can only pick up seizures which happen during the actual test. They usually try to provoke seizure activity by using strobe lights and through hyperventilating.

To hyperventilate you just breathe long, deep breaths as fast as you can.

I'm not sure what you don't understand.

thats exactly the detail i was looking for as i have never been through this before, this testing is all new to me !
