Shoulder replacement surgeries

Hello all,

I am facing total shoulder replacement surgery of both my shoulders because of chronic dislocations from TC seizures. I've had bone blocks put in both shoulders and additional stabilization surgery on my left shoulder.

My question is has anyone had it done and if so would you let me know how it went.

Any information appreciated.

Hi Jake,

I haven't had shoulder replacement surgery, but I am very sympathetic, having also experienced chronic dislocations as a result of a t-c. I had a dislocation after one seizure, and then a torn labrum after another, at which point the shoulder began popping out all the time. (You get proficient at finding ways to pop it back in). I had laparoscopic surgery a few years ago to repair the torn labrum and it hasn't dislocated since.

I hope that you are comfortable with your surgeon, and with the replacement procedure. And it definitely helps to have a good physical therapist for the recovery period.

I was going to have it done this month at HSS (Hospital for Special Surgery) in New York City. it's the #1 ranked hospital for Orthopedics in the US. I chose the doctor I felt most comfortable with and that's where he practices. BUT I got a call and they are concerned about my E and me falling because of a seizure. I think the truth is they are more concerned about their statistics. I told them I had some seizures last fall but they were caused when I was switching from Dilantin (which could no longer be regulated after 45 years) to Carbatrol. So for the time being the op is on hold. I'm checking into a doc at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and another in Houston.

I hope your shoulder problems are behind you Nakamova and you don't suffer with them anymore.

total shoulder replacement

Were you ever able to get your surgery done. I am facing the dilemma of getting my left one done and wondering about others experiences afterwards.
I have never dislocated my shoulder during one of my seizures but my pain and probably surgery comes from degenerative arthritis. If anyone has had it done please enlighten me with your experience with it. Having a hard time making the final decision.
