Has anyone taken 1500mg of keppra and 100mg of tegretol twice a day and had side affects such as feeling sick when eating first thing on a morning and sometimes actually being sick, also feeling sick when hungry and it getting worse if do not eat? also very bad heartburn which is on a morning and on a night?
Any comments and solutions would be really gratefull.

Hello. I'm currently on keppra/lamotrigene/clobazam, but I used to be on keppra and tegretol. Even with my current keppra in my meds and no tegretol, I'm often feeling nausea and shaky in the throat. Also, I experience heartburn quite often, so I have heartburn tablets at the ready just in case. (Glass of milk also helps.) Things were probably a bit worse back when it was keppra and tegretol, so you're certainly not alone. The best way I could overcome this was to eat/drink alkaline things, such as dairy. (Particularly milk as I said.) However, once already feeling sickly I don't feel like drinking milk, or sometimes eating full stop.

I don't know if the dairy suggestion will help you, but I would consider consulting your doctor about it. Sometimes they don't help at all but it's worth a try.

Thanx mantis. My doctors and neuro are useless i have been telling them for ages about side affects they think im paranoid. I will try the milk thing. I tried not eating the other night and i still had the sickness feeling and felt like i was gonna collapse. I tried rennies for heartburn and that seems to have helped with the heartburn. But still having sickness and burning in my stomach wether i eat or dont.

At one time I was taking 4000mg of Keppra a day on top of 800 mg of Tegretol a day. I found I took my morning meds and by 10a I was asleep on the couch for at least 3 or 4 hours. I fought horrible depression and even suicidal thoughts. I've been off the Keppra for almost a month. I can't tell you how much better I feel. While on Keppra I took a B vitamin then went to a multi-vitamin. That eased some of the side effects but didn't stop them completely. Hope that helps

For about a year I was on Keppra 500 and tegretol 400 in the AM, and 1000 Keppra and 800 Tegretol in the PM. I was having trouble with reflux early on with this dose of Tegretol (the Keppra had been at the same dose for a long time, so I knew it wasn't that) and was on a prescription anti-reflux medication for a few months but then it settled down and I didn't need the anti-reflux medication anymore.

Pita300 thanks. I take a multi vitamon for my hair really. I am auite tired on both of these meds. But can never sleep on a night. Always have a buzzing in my ears. Sometimes i feel really down and get vety emotional. Masterjen i always feel very sick if i dont eat and feel sick first thing on a morning when i do have my breakfast and im never sick but one day this week or last week i actually was sicl. I dont even think the doctors know what they are doing as everyime i ring they just make yet another excuse.

I'm currently taking 3000mg of Keppra daily. I haven't experienced the ill feelings but am tired as heck all the time, and have frequent days where I'm extra grumpy. I've told my doc this but he doesn't want to change it yet...even tho I have break through seizures still.

Nausea is a common side effect of both medications, as I'm sure you've learned by googling. Lots of times I used to have mild nausea that made me not want to eat breakfast first this in the AM, but the sooner I could at least get a piece of toast and jam down the better off I was, and could eat a better meal a short while later. It might be reflux causing the nausea, as I mentioned I suffered from this in my post further up.

Mejohn i have been on 3 different types of meds and suffered side affectd with them all. I have breakthrough seizures like i did yesterday. My neuro and epilepsy nusrse couldnt care its like they think am lying. I have now started getting a weird pain in my stomach and chest. Masterjen that is exactly me but just feel like no one believes. Getting awful pains and weird feelings. I saw my neuro beginning of june to go in hospital for a few nights to see if they can find anything as the eegs arent picking anything up. Its now nearly the end of august and the letter hasnt been sent off yet. Just feel like they are in no rush and couldnt care.

If you've been experiencing stomach and chest pain, as well as nausea, it may be that the tegretol and keppra are giving you an acid stomach. Avoiding acidifying foods may help. This link ranks foods from most alkaline (non-acidic) to least, in case you want to give them a try: http://greenopedia.com/article/alkaline-food-chart-degree

Nakamova thats exactly what it feels like acid. its like on and off. one day im ok then the next am ill wioth it,touch wood i have been ok past 2 days. Thanks for the link i will have a look.

Very interesting link there. Some foods that I didn't think are acidic are very much so. I'm not sure I understand there being two tables. I thought food would either have low pH or high pH, thus either acidic or alkaline. I may have some reading to do.
