I wonder if anybody has this side effect besides me. Occasionally I will get so sleepy I could just sleep hour after hour after hour, and usually after a day of this feel fine. Lately seems to be happening when I try to read a lot. Today about 4 I needed a nap and then all evening could not keep awake. Got up for a while but can feel I'm going right back to sleep when I go back to bed. I have no seizure activity, just this horrible tiredness. Really really do not know how you guys cope that take more meds than I do and especially more than one kind. Just cannot fathom how you even live any kind of life.

Hi, Elsie,

I'm like that after a bad day of seizures. I'd sleep for a month if I could. On some of the meds I felt like that, too. Trileptal and Topamax both made me so sleepy I couldn't function. On lamictal I seem to be better, kind of. I'm always exhausted but can't sleep.

Have you let your neuro know how sleepy you are? Maybe your meds need adjusting, or maybe a switch might help.

I have the same problem after I read a lot, but then I will have seizures too. I love to read, and it is hard when you have a "can't put it down" book! I have just learned to read one chapter at a time. It's a bummer, but seizures are worse :)

Thanks, I wouldn't want to try switching as trileptal works to keep seizures at bay. There are worse side effects! Neurologist once told me he puts all his students on tegretol because they can function on it...medicine does have the drousy warning on the side of the bottle and the warning about heavy equipment, lol everything is heavy equipment if I fall asleep somewhere. Reading a lot does seem to aggravate it. As does focusing hard on any mental task for a while, come to think of it.
