1/2mg. You can always work up to a higher dose (5mg. max) if the low dose doesn't seem to help.
 
As a supplement, melatonin isn't regulated the way meds are, so it's tough to compare particular brands. if you have a vitamin brand that you are already comfortable with, that should be fine. Generally speaking, look for
• Lower dose tablet/capsule size (1mg or less)
• Not combined with vitamins.

I am also on Keppra but it doesn't make me sleepy well I wish I could help you on this one I don't know have you talked to his doctor to let them know what is going on? That is the only safe thing I can think of to do.
