Decided to start taking Vimpat. Had some more seizures and I don't like it... (insert childish whiney tone to prior sentence). I have a question though, can one AED increase side effect of another one your taking? Some of the things I'm feeling are on the list for Topamax not Vimpat and I haven't experienced them for a little while or at least not this intense since I first started taking Topamax.

Yay for vacation. Just started, but I love not being at work!

Hi Aicila,

A while back I was taking 2 and 3 meds at a time and it did some funny stuff with the side effects.

Med 1 had side effects.
Med 2 had side effects.

Taking them together made new side effects that neither had on their own, or would INCREASE one already going on.
Also, just because it's not a 'known' side effect doesn't mean it's not happening to you. Whatever side effect you were already having from med 1, you may be having with med 2, making it 2x as strong.

It's very confusing. I'm sorry you're having to deal with that. I hope it works out for you.

By the way, I started taking Vimpat along with Dilantin about 6 months ago, and I like the stuff ... a lot. It has a lot of side effects, from what I can tell, but they're not 'bad' ones.

The combination of the meds is a big unknown. I take Keppra and added Vimpat. some of the old side effects came back and then diminished mostly. I only had one new side effect that stayed and neither of them had it listed at all. My Dr. doesn't know how or why and just shakes his head the same as I do. I developed a food allergy to..........oranges. I am learning the hard way what has oranges in it and many of them are surprises like A1 steak sauce.
Just hang in there. It is a bumpy ride but hopefully it won't last the whole time.
