Well the weirdest thing happened today.

A girlfriend of mine, a personal trainer, just started doing full body massage. I had an appointment to see her this afternoon. I woke up today, felt great and was looking forward to seeing her. I get to her office, disrobe, lay there and she's amazing. It was wonderful! I was so relaxed. I didn't want it to end, but like all good things, it had to..lol...

As I slowly began to get up I realized I wasn't feeling well. I mean, I really wasn't feeling well at all. Very very carefully I made my way to the chair where my clothes were, it was only maybe 2 feet away. I sat down and slowly was able to get dressed. I continued to sit, just barely. I was so so so dizzy and light headed. Luckily my friend took her time coming back into the room. I paid, carefully walked out to my car, started it up, got my AC going (it's 100+ outside here) and sat for a while, waiting to feel a little better. Then I drove the 10 minutes home.

The rest of the day I've felt much the same. Fuzzy headed, off balance, dizzy, my temples a little numb, slightly headachy...kind of like I've been wearing glasses that were way too tight.

Could I have had a seizure on the massage table? I've had hundreds of professional massages and haven't experienced anything like this.

Now I've woken up in the morning (or from a nap) feeling awful like this before, and it's lasted all day, then I'll be fine the next morning...I just chalk those days up to me being "off balance". But I just find it strange how it happened today.

Now I'm wondering what these episodes might be.

Med related...e related...it's quite concerning.

Opinions?

Thanks.

Hi Cathy,
Have you ever had, that you know of, or do you have simple partials? They can make you feel pretty wasted after (If I'm near a couch or bed and don't have something pressing to do I'm out for a good cat nap). Depending on the 'type' of SP one has (epigastric, hallucinogenic), it can really affect you, which could explain the dizziness (some of mine are a lot more intense than others and with those I feel a little 'off' on my feet for a few minutes after).
Just a thought anyway, esp. if it's happened before.

Cathy,
Just read your post again to see if anything else rang a bell...
You mention that you've woken up in the morning or from a nap feeling like this before. I've had SP's for years that were unpredictable at anytime, however, i've noticed over the last two years they seem to have taken on an 'agenda' for lack of a better word.
A good 75 per cent of them are now either waking me up from sleep or coming on as I'm waking up. (lol!?!... and then I fall back asleep from them).
Don't know if this will help or not but it may be worth asking your neuro about.

My first two thoughts are that during the massage:
- something has been disturbed in your neck
- you've been exposed to a new massage oil you're allergic to

I know I would have a similar reaction to either.

Also, what you've described is how I've felt prior to both of my complex partials, so beware!

Our bodies can be so delicate. I hope you work it out without too much trauma.

A friend of mine who's a massage therapist always says it's very important to drink a lot of water before and afterwards. I found this on a massage site:

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
There is no question that being hydrated when you arrive for your massage leads to more beneficial effects. Thus, we encourage you to drink a lot of water in the twelve to twenty-four hours before your massage. We do more than encourage you to hydrate after your massage, however. You will receive a bottle of water at the conclusion of every massage you receive at one of our studios. Sometimes—if we think you need it—we will even load you down with a couple of bottles! Good therapeutic massage always releases toxins that have built up in your system, and in order to flush those toxins out of your system, you should drink eight to twelve ounces of water in the first twenty minutes following your massage. Depending on the levels and types of toxins released, you may experience a little soreness in the days following your massage. But remember, the more water you drink, the less sore you’ll feel. In any case, we’ll remind you to drink that bottle of water we’ve just handed you. And should you begin to feel aches in the first hour after your massage, drinking an additional bottle of water immediately will likely reduce or eliminate the symptoms of your detoxification.

Given the heat in general, maybe there was some dehydration affecting you?

Another possibility is that the massage was TOO relaxing. Seizures can arise out of theta brainwaves, which are the ones associated with daydreaming and just waking up. In some cases the relaxation brought about by massage can cause a seizure -- and of course in other cases it can help prevent them, as with seizures brought on by stress.

Hey everyone, thanks for the posts. Sorry I forgot to respond until now.

I really don't know what happened. Great points about the dehydration Nak, I know to drink afterwords, never thought of it before. With this weather and me being on topamax I should be drinking tons, but I've never been a big drinker.

Very interesting links elizzza...I'll sit down and read that whole thread tomorrow when my brain isn't so tired.

You all have given me lots of great info and things to think about.

I think what I need to do is have another massage and see what happens...:roflmao: ;) :D

Thanks!!

Chel and qtown-

I've never been good at pinpointing what goes on with my body unless its something real obvious and new. I had psychomotor epilepsy I supposedly grew out of as a child, I wonder if I ever truely did. Maybe I've always had partials and don't think anything of them because it seems normal to me. Then again, when reading of everyones experiences here with them...I don't know. All my life I've had some issues with comprehending, spacing out, and not being able to pay attention sometimes and it's been so frusterating. So your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks for the replies.
