My son started having seizures about a year ago, about an hour before he wakes up. He went on medicine, twice daily and we thought they were controlled. This morning he woke up and felt like he had had a seizure, body aches, severe headache, confusion but he had not wet the bed. He had always wet the bed with previous seizures. Is that always a sign or can symptoms change? Thanks for any info.

Hi tparsells, welcome to CWE!

Yup, seizure patterns and symptoms can change. I have had plenty of tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures, but I only wet myself during the very first one. Definitely let your son's neuro know that you think a seizure may have occurred. The neuro will want to evaluate whether this was a breakthrough (fluke) episode due to an unusual stressor or trigger, or whether it's a sign that your son's medication may need to be tweaked.

Best,
Nakamova
