Today started my Keppra journey 500 mg this morning. Il add. 500 mg a day once a week until I reach 3000 mg a day. Any advice or anything I should be watching for besides the usuall drowseyness , iratability ?

i wish you the best of luck. I tried it, it wasnt for me. I had a slight reaction to it. I will say this, about 2 hours after taking the first pill, I felt like my "real" self. I havent been me in almost 2 years. I even asked if I could take half a dose and to see if I could tolerate it, dr told me no. Now taking dilvalproex. Cant tell if its working, well not true, I had an episode today, horrible one, thought for sure I was getting ready to get sucked into a "black hole".

Again, good luck!

I remember getting incredibly, horribly dizzy at first.
For me "new" seizures came into play and an increase in seizures. It gave me insomnia, a lack of appetite and depression.
It works super well for some people though! My sister is on it and it works great for her.
I hope that someone who has had a good experience with it pipes up!

PITA - Good luck with the Keppra.
I've been on Keppra for 4 years, I know I had some mild side effects when I 1st started the Keppra which only lasted for a couple of weeks, apart from that I have gone pretty well on the Keppra.

It's not so bad, to start I didn't like it, made me dizzy tierd and grumpy. But that all settled, with each increase that came back but again went away. I'm at 3000 mg a day now and fr now and then I get grumpy but I can controll that of I really try. I also have to make sure I eat enough as I have no apitight on it. Good luck with it x

Good Luck with the Keppra! Im also taking 3000mgs of keppra XR.
I remember feeling alittle dizzy, and tired alot. It took me sometime to get use to the side effects. Let us know how things go!

Keppra can increase anxiety. I'm already an extremely anxious person, and it made me unable to do pretty much anything because I was worrying about things every moment. I had to be taken off of it for that reason.

Pitta best of luck with it, just was not for me. Watch out for the anger.

I hope it works out for you. If possible I would suggest waiting at least two weeks at each increment before going up to the next level. It never hurts to go "low and slow" with brain meds, and it can definitely help by giving the brain more time to adjust.

Yeah your right Nak. I have the rest of my life to be at 3000mg. Thanks everone for the well wishes. Ill keep you all posted on my journey

I agree with Nakamova...

Last year when I was being weaned slowly off of Keppra... I was only going down 250mgs a week. It would have taken me 3 months (12 weeks) to get completely off of the Keppra. But for me, I had a severe allergic reaction to the other medication, and had to be taken off of it. The lowest I got on keppra from 3000mgs was down to 2500mgs and I could tell a huge difference. The seizure symptoms were popping up daily, til I was put back to 3000mgs.

Good luck with your journey, Pita.
When I first started it back in June, there was a time I felt like Mary said-I felt like myself again-like I had been set free. Then with each dosage increase (up to 1000 twice a day now) differrent side effects came along. But overall I'm hesitant to change because I think deep down that it's doing the job. I take a B complex vitamin to offset the anger issues but I've been pretty snappy with hubby lately. Think I'd rather endure the side effects than more seizures.
Guess I would be negligent if I didn't tell you that I had a status episode in August while increasing the generica keppra. But I think that was because I was being weaned off Dilantin too quickly. After that the Dr kept me on the Dilantin. Just be careful-but everybody reacts to stuff differently. Good luck!

I wish you luck. I remember when I started the name brand xr, it was a trip for the first month but not to bad. I can say many bad things about the med, just not a fan of the generic. Just hope it is smooth sailing andthat this is the one!

I started 1500mg of Keppra per day last week on top of 400mg dilantin per day that I've been taking for 2 years.

My drowsiness is thru the roof, (probably b.c of the mix I guess, the 400mg dilantin on it's own had drowsiness listed as a side effect but never effected me). It kicks in roughly 3-4 hours after I take the pills. I take both RXs together, should I spread them out a little bit? Bother are 1/2 of the prescription twice a day.

Main point: random and not a "bad" side effect I guess. But ever since I started taking the Keppra, I remember my dreams EVERY MORNING now. I guess I was normal before remembering 2-4 a month, now I remember them EVERY MORNING. Getting a full night of sleep and waking up on my own with no alarm clock assistance. Pretty wild stuff lol.
