I just stared into space if you like and sound vanished, just couldn't hear anything for about a minute. Buddy came over and pawed my leg gently just as I came back. I wondered why I was staring into space and heard nothing. Once I came out of that episode everything was normal. I believe I will be mentioning that at my appointment.

If you were aware of having been staring into space, I highly doubt it was an absence seizure and probably wasn't even a complex partial seizure. The brain will take "breaks" now and then esp. if we're fatigued and enter a state of intense daydreaming or even microsleep in which we blank out for as long as 30 sec.

Good point, I wouldn't be aware, definately wouldn't be aware with complex partial seizures. Just found it odd as that has never happened before. Mum said it happened a few years back only I wasn't aware according to her and it was before Buddy was born. I don't remember it though so just going off what mum had told me. Never been aware til that one yesterday though so odd.

The temporary lack of sound could possible be a sound-related partial seizure or a kind of tinnitus...

So do you think it's worth mentioning at least the sound going bye bye? What is tinnitus?

I personally would mention it but that's only me because I am always aware of anything different that happens now. Also for me my auras are audio related, I hear a stranger noise & don't lose awareness.

Tinnitus is the hearing of sound when no external sound is present.[1] While often described as a ringing, it may also sound like a clicking, hiss or roaring.[2] Rarely, unclear voices or music are heard.[3] The sound may be soft or loud, low pitched or high pitched and appear to be coming from one ear or both.[2] Most of the time, it comes on gradually.

Tinnitus is not a disease but a symptom that can result from a number of underlying causes. One of the most common causes is noise-induced hearing loss. Other causes include: ear infections, disease of the heart or blood vessels, Ménière's disease, brain tumors, emotional stress, exposure to certain medications, a previous head injury, and earwax.

Nakamova and CQ:) brought to my attention something my eyes "glossed over" - sorry. I, too, would mention the sensation of brief hearing loss. If you haven't had your hearing tested recently I would recommend asking to have it tested - if nothing else to establish some sort of baseline. Do you hear any kind of phantom sound (tinnitus) such as ringing, buzzing, droning, clicking, humming (etc.) just before you feel like you can't hear anything? An Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)specialist is a doctor who can help with hearing loss and other issues related to the ear and if your neurologist isn't sure what is going on, you could ask for a referral to an ENT.

I have never had perfect hearing and I have 2 hearing aids, however I have never temporarily completely lost all hearing til the above episode. I decided last night that yes I'm going to mention that to him on saturday. He is very knowledgeable about all different seizures and other things. If it is padt of my epilepsy then he'll know just what to do.
