Strange(?) post seziure effects

I am 54 yrs old. diagnosed at 7 yrs. I have been seziure free from 1997-2008. In january I had 4 seziures in 1 day. It took me a month to get over those. I have no memory of January. Since that time I have had to write down everything that pops into my head in hopes that it might be something I need to know. My concentration is gone, I have tremors in my hands, hand writing looks like I should be about 7 yrs old. My doctor has not answered any of my concerns. The worst side affect is that I will think I remembered something and ask someone about it they tell me it never happened. My family is having a rough time handeling it. I believe they think I've lost my mind. Has anyone here had these side effects? I am afraid that I may be having some sort of mental disorder.

What type of seizures did you experience back in January? Did your neurologist order another EEg or MRI to see what is going on in your brain? Something happened, otherwise you wouldn't be having these problems. Maybe these things that you think happened are some sort of seizure activity? or ictal activity. These type of things do happen with seizure activity, depending on where in the brain the seizures originate.

My doctor has done various test on me for the last 9 mo. I even went to see a neurophycologist. That was a waste. Back in the ddark ages(lol) when I was younger I would have a seizure, go to bed and in an hour I was ready to go. Now it lasts for ever the last grand mal seizures I had were in June another 3 wks forgotten. What bothers me most is that the doctor seems to blow off my concerns. Your answeris the best one I've gotten and Thanks, I'll check on those.

What happened during the January seizures? Did you have a fall of any sort? Were you put on any meds? The side effects you describe could be due to either some damage in the course of the Jan. seizures or from medications, or as Cint suggests from seizures themselves. I would seek out a second opinion since your doctor is being so unresponsive.

I am on depakote and keppra. I am looking for a new doctor. The January seziures I'm not to sure about. I know I was pretty bruised up. I was in my sons car for one of them and broke his dash board. I was also told that when we got to the ER they really didn't do anything. I had several seziures there. I had more in May and June. The one in June was odd I fell down several stairs punctured my leg in several places bruised more body parts. As soon as the seziure was over I can remember coming to and knowing what happened. I have never done that before. I crawled up the stairs and called my husband. By the time he got home I had no memory of the things I had done.

My daughter also has loss of memory. It is very disconcerting for her to have this happen.

I am going to sound like a broken record here, but nutritional issues, sensitivities etc, can cause many neurological disorders. It all deals with the brain and causes mental changes. You are not crazy. It is the conventional view of this disorder that is crazy. Meds control the symptom, just as a bandaid can be put on a wound to cover it and keep it clean for awhile. However, over time that bandaid needs to be changed. After a while the meds simply do not cover up the underlying CAUSE any longer.

WHY is the question that we need to be continually asking. Seizures are the symptom.
What are the causes and why is this occuring. If you are experiencing any other medical issues that might be dealing with intestinal issues or a liver that is over burdened or ?, you might consider that there is a connection. They are not seperate. The body is reacting to something.

My seizures are no where near the level of severity you experience, but I too always experience the loss of concentration and debilitating memory loss. I usually can't remember much from the day prior to and the day of the seizure. I also feel like I have trouble learning and storing new information. I will forget things that I know well...like how to get to my job where I have worked for about 5 years. I also notice that I will be having a conversation with someone and just forget what we are talking about. I'm sorry your memory issues are so bad. I agree...you should go to another doctor...one who will address your concerns and try to put you at ease. Epilepsy is a scary disease and you need a good doctor who will help you through it.

A sudden relapse like that followed by a sudden round of new impairments suggests, possibly, some sort of vascular insult, and not necessarily a seizure at all. Did they even do a CT scan to rule out stroke?

But, to answer your question, my memory and concentration are disappearing over time (over the course of several years). That rate at which your symptoms came on is what would worry me.
