Since it's a trigger for a lot of us, I'm curious how people deal with it. What mechanisms do you find most effective?

I use heavy metal music, paintball, and cooking.

Jay

Music and pretending to know how to dance while listening to music!
Paintball sounds like a great release!
I'm more of a baker than a cooker. There is something amazing about smelling banana bread baking in the oven and the "ding" when it's finally ready.
Sometimes I clean but it usually makes me feel angrier for some reason!

Music, walking outside in nature if possible.

Turning my tears into prayers, reading my Bible, going to church, singing, and getting out of the dang house seems to be pretty therapeutic for me.

Punching out whoever is stressing me out,lol kidding!!!,deep breathing, try and avoid stressful situations.I have a valium/diazapam prescription from my family doctor which i must admit helps me imensley, seems i can handle situations better with the knowledge that i have diazapam inside

I call my sister and we both rant about how much we hate people for about 5 minutes and then it is all good :)

I usually send an email to my very good friend in USA & just rant about whatever is stressing me out. She is good, she'll listen to what I have to say even if the emails end up being long rants & she usually has something funny to say which cheers me up.

same as huskymom and LJ...
get on the phone with my best friend and rant away, and cleaning cleaning cleaning. A lot of the time we'll both take turns bitching and/or crying and by the time it's said and done both of our houses are spotless!!

Hmmmmm forgot about ranting and raving, putting the world to rights!!! That certainly helps reduce the old stress levels without a doubt!!!

I always found smashing a heavy bag for a half hour was always tremendous. I really should get one again.

Geez, I don't have the energy for any of that at the moment. I walk my dogs or cuddle a horse=) Or watch the Big Bang Theory! I love that show.

Haha yes!! A good dose of Wolowitz has a pretty good ability to cheer me up.

for me it has always been music and cleaning. as far as the music goesmit's just not as loud as it used to be. well it starts out blasting, then i have to go to much lower decibels.
i am so glad to hear cleaning is a stress relief for others..i always felt that i was strange for that! the only thing lately is finding new cleaning products..the smells get to me..and i bounce from room to room. i am so easily distracted..lolol

Gotta love that heavy metal music! My friends think it would make them angry, but it really has quite the opposite effect on me. I also like to go running when I can, and pursue other hobbies. I love spending time with my kids when they are not whining and causing the stress! Cleaning can help to a point, but after a while it loses it's effectiveness.

It's funny because I do just about everything that everyone on here does!

I'll usually call my grandma, who I talk to about everything, and just rant and rave about what's going on and who I'm ready to kill.

I've got a punching bag somewhere, I think it may have gotten lost when I move cause I can't find it. There have been so many times I've wanted to punch a hole in the wall.

I'll start cleaning like crazy too and listen to music when I do it. My husband will leave me in the house alone when I clean, he knows that I want to do it my way and if he trys to help sometimes and just get's in the way. We'll start fighting about that and it just stresses me out even more. Wish I'd get stressed out more often cause the house would be a whole lot cleaner!
