symptoms during eeg

i went in for my very first eeg and things were going well until it got to the strobe light part. at first when the strobe lights started I felt a little light headed, nausious, and my fingers and toes started going numb like I usually get, then after maybe a minute or so passed I started shaking really bad, the lights started changing color and warping and I felt as though I was about to faint and my nausia got so severe until I told the person running the eeg and they stopped the lights. I honestly was not expecting something like that to happen, I was so confused. Is it normal to have that sort of reaction to the strobe lights? I had the eeg done with so little information and I didn't know what to expect or what is normal or not during an eeg. Has anyone else had something similar happen or is it just me?

When I went for my EEG I did fine until the same part. Then out of the blue my neck tensed up and I started getting a migraine and had an anxiety attack. I saw swirls and dots and stuff like that as well. When they asked me to repeat what had happened to me my speech was slurred and I couldn't recall all of what had happened. My EEG came back normal but they stopped the lights before I really got into my seizure like activity. That is mild for me. What happened was at least. What it sounds like you were experiencing were auras. Don't be surprised if yours comes back showing something. But if not don't be discouraged. EEGs don't always pick up seizures. Some are too deep in the brain and others originate in places like the frontal lobe which has very few leads on it and also they can move in a direction that isn't picked up. When mine came back normal I was shocked until I learned those few facts. Keep your head up.

I have nocturnal seizures, and after two EEGs I had nocturnal seizures. One time I'd think coincidence but twice and I begin to wonder. I don't know of course if it would have been the breathing, lights, or what because even now I can't specifically identify a trigger for the seizures. Mind you, I'm not in a situation where I'd breathe that fast or see lights like that for such an extended time as is used during the EEG. The EEGs ended up being normal, and had no seizure at the time of the testing.

Thanks for the responses. I was told just yesterday that during the time my symptoms were happening there were significant spikes showing on the screen. they wouldn't give me further details because they want to transfer the results to my primary care doctor to go over it with me and decide what to do from there. Not quite sure what any of this means, but i'll be finding out soon. Also I noticed that for two days after the eeg I was having the symptoms more often, instead of 1-2 times a day it became 3-4 times a day.
