This is my first time using this forum, so I am new to this whole process. I have so many health problems right now, so it is hard to focus on just one. I will just focus on the epilepsy since that is what this forum is for. I was diagnosed with adult on-set temporal lobe epilepsy at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida in November 2012. I had a febrile convulsion when I was 15 months old. My convulsion lasted over 30 minutes and my fever was 106 rectally. I had no further problems until I was about 45 years old. I was a first grade teacher at the time and my students started telling me I was more or less spaced out at times. I would be reading or teaching them and I would just zone out. Then my family and friends started noticing problems too. Since my trip to the Mayo I have now started having "brain zaps" up to 30 times a day. Some days are much worse than others. Then yesterday I had one huge zap that felt like I put my finger in an electric outlet. Later in the evening I was sitting next to my husband while he was on his laptop and I looked at the screen. Immediately, I started having "brain zaps" second after second and my head started spinning. That had never happened before. Does anyone know what might be going on and why I am experiencing these changes? I plan to let my doctor know on Monday, but I have to get throught the weekend. Thanks!

Hi, what do you mean by "brain zaps?" I have temporal Lobe epilepsy too but I always get an aura which for me is a feeling of fear or dread.

Sometimes I get a brain buzz, like a high-tension wire inside my head. After a long time observing patterns I think mine is related to migraines and is a migraine aura.

One thing I've learned during my time in this forum is that everybody is an individual, and "usual" and "normally" are not really applicable.

Brain zaps are horrible but the only time I've ever had them was while withdrawing from anti-depressants. I hope it sorts itself out soon. ***hugs***

Welcome to CWE.

Hi Endless and CathyAnn31.

Thanks for your reply as you reminded me of something about myself.
Even though I don't understand your Brain Zaps, a rare thing for me is a "tickling" sensation inside my head that I get once in a blue moon just before I have a seizure. It drives me nuts as I can't get to it (obviously), to do anything about it.
I haven't had it now for quite a few years, maybe because of neurosurgery that I had to stop my epilepsy. The surgery was a great success but I still have sleep seizures and so, am still on some meds.
Once again, thanks for your reply.
