Today I bought my 8 yr old son a Venus fly trap from the grocery store as a surprise. I thought they were so neat when I was a kid and figured he'd get a kick out of it. I opened the container and he freaked! Ran off crying. It scared him half to death!!! Poor kid. Not typical of him to be scared of stuff.

He doesn't want anything to do with it so he gave it to his sister, lol. :p

You'd think he would be all about that. Knowing kids, he will probably come around and want to interact with it. Until then I guess his sister gets to have all the fun!

Thanks Muay.

The strangest thing is he likes it now. He still won't touch the actual plant but will carry it around in its container, and is always checking on it.

Now let's see how long I can keep the thing alive, lol.

I loved Venus Fly Traps as a kid (still do). Have you had him drop a bug in it yet, like an ant? That should sell any kid on them.

Alternatively you can have him watch little shop of horrors and scare the crap out of him... although it looks kinda cheesy now... :)

dont let him read 'day of triffids'...i was told if you touch it over four times it die,let us know cos i want one
i got this cactus he affectionatly known as dick the prick he 2ft' tall and got brother 6inchs tall that little rotund right next to him,it like two foot phalax in my kitchen and he first thing you see when come through front door, people jaw drops when they see it

Well at least drop an ant in it, unless your son or daughter love ants. Don't you have fire ants down there. No one likes a fire ant.

That's what kids are for! :)
Just Kidding!! ;)

I guess they'll have to settle for poking it with a pen to get the leaves to close.

Just be careful or it will be an epic fail!.. with fire ants!!
