I've been reading a bit about the flu and one website said that it's recommended that anyone with a brain disorder should get the flu shot. Why would that be? Every time I get a cold I have breakthrough seizures, so what's different about the flu?
I feel like I'm getting sick right now. I hope it's not the flu. :/

I think it is to lessen the effects of the flu, so you might not have breakthrough seizures. I sometimes can't tell if I have a bad flu or a bad cold because the symptoms tend to be similar for me. But I usually have a small cluster of seizures if I get sick with either. I'm not feeling to good today at all, hope your not coming down with the flu!

For a lot of folks, the fever that comes with the flu, and/or the resulting fatigue, dehydration, and breathing issues can all act as seizure triggers. So in the hopes preventing that particular stress, a flu vaccine might be a good idea. Myself, I've never had the flu shot, but my seizures are well-controlled at the moment, and I work alone at home, so my exposure is minimal.

I hope you both stay healthy!

Thanks Jade, that I am glad you caught that typo. haha that would have come across really bad if someone thought I wanted them to get the flu.

Never been offered a flu shot in my life, with us and they think you need one,ie,asthmatics, old age(etc) You are sent a letter to your home asking you to come in.The same goes for your yearly check up.

I did get the flu shot, and the next I felt like I was going to have a seizure but never did. I felt this to be the lesser of two evils, because when I get sick I have many seizures and with antib. this again brings on more seizures.

Hope everyone stays well.

We're opting not to do the flu shot, because Jon sometimes has bad reactions to the vaccines themselves. Plus, it doesn't seem to be going around here (too hot, I think).

He's on a high dose of zinc (for his bowel issues) so hopefully that will boost his immune system

Ive had the flu shot before due to my asthma i now opt out of it cause i still ended up with the flu that year ...i Dont remember how my seizures were cause i was in bed most of the duration of it ....its personal prefence if you get it or not drs Cant make you have it

We are offered the shot for free here at work, but I have never had one. Any time I am sick I have a flair up on the seizure front. They don't make enough shots for all of that :)

I always get a yearly flu shot, but it's just not because I have epilepsy. Being sick, sucks!
