Well I was on a good streak but now it's ended. I went 5 months without a tc, until last night.

At least I didn't chew up my tongue too bad.

I feel really strange right now though, like I'm not in my own body, if that makes sense. Like there's something wrong with my sensory input. My brain feels okay though, but my body does not. Does this happen to anyone else?

Also I was wondering, if you throw up after you take your medication, should you take another dose? Does anyone know how long it takes to absorb into your system? I'm on lamictal 275 mg 2x daily.

Hi Chris --

So sorry to hear about your tonic-clonic. Any guesses as to why now?

There are bunch of factors that can determine how quickly the Lamictal is absorbed: Is the Lamictal XR or regular? What increments do you take it in (25mgs, 50s, 100s?). Your metabolic rate can make a difference too, and whether you take your Lamictal with food. In general, Lamictal is rapidly absorbed, maybe a tad slightly slower if taken with food. So if you throw up immediately after taking your pills, you could probably take another replacement dose. But if some time has elapsed, chances are the Lamictal has been absorbed in your system, and you don't have to worry.
 
I am sorry to hear about that Chris. I have gone 5 months, too - that sucks. Again, depending on how long afterward, I probably would, but that doesn't mean that is the right thing to do.
 
Sorry to here this Chris. I was really hoping you were getting started on a long stretch like I have had with TCs. I am in my best stretch in the 30 years I have had E.

That leftover feeling is common. The body is recovering from running a mini-marathon.

Not sure why it happened, no real cause. Seems to be the way E has worked for me all my life. Nice and random... well at least it was the best streak I was ever on, by a long shot.

I'm on regular lamictal, I take two 100's and three 25's twice a day, and I usually don't take it with food. It's good to know that it can absorb quickly. After a nocturnal tc I'll wake up and often get sick all morning/afternoon, and I've got to take my pills in the morning at some point..

I'm back at work today, but trying not to talk to anyone as my tongue hurts so bad!!

I'm so sorry about your seizure, and the end to your long streak of seizure free. My seizures are rather random, too.

This is not a substitute for doctor's advice, but.... I asked my neuro about how long it takes to get my AED's into my system, because I throw mine up on a regular basis. He said it takes 1-2 hours to get into the intestine and be absorbed by the body. I asked him, if I throw up my meds within an hour then I retake the dose, if that sounds reasonable. He said yes.

So make of that what you will.

(I'm on lamictal 125mg a.m., and 100mg p.m. low dose!)
 
How does 5 months compare to recent history? My wife has been attaining longer and longer spans between TCs. It seems as if the things she is doing are improving control over time.
 
While it's

a bummer that your streak has ended, consider it a new beginning for an even longer streak. That sore tongue thing really sux a hill o'beans. (You can rinse it off frequently with a light salt water, or light water and peroxide solution so it doesn't become infected.)

And my doc has said the same thing as Endless' doc. Personally, I do everything possible NOT to throw up, not only because I can't stand the feeling of it happening, but because I don't want to screw around with possibly losing my meds.

Thanks guys. That's good to know about the meds - thanks for that info Endless. I managed to not throw up this time but most of the time I do when I wake up. (my tc's are almost always nocturnal)

If I had to take some positives out of it, it's that this was the longest streak I've had, by far, since I started having tc's again. The time between incidences has varied over the years, but on average it's getting longer each time. :) I'm glad to hear things are going well for your wife Bernard.

So here's to a fresh start Meetz! Lets hope this streak will last even longer.

But from how I've been feeling the last few days.. I was convinced that I was going to have some more. Makes me scared to go to sleep!
 
I could imagine the sleeping again after a TC would suck and be scary.

I have since started only having seizures (CP, TC and would wake up with SP) in my sleep since stopping Neurontin. Not a single one (unless I had an absence I didnt notice) while awake in a long time. Dont know how long. 2.5 -3 weeks? roughly. Which is the absolute longest I have been seizure free while awake for the seizure.

at this point its more of a relief if the seizure comes at night. I have way less injuries from it, and I recoup faster from them. But I dont think I would like it if i went 5 months totally seizure free and then had one while sleeping. Id probably freak out to go to bed the next night.
 
I've had the same body sensation you have after I had a seizure too. I hope your seizure-free streak returns, Chris515.
