Ok I know we have beat the driving question to death here but here is my spin on it.

When I was first diagnosed with E my Neurologist at the time told me as long as she told me not to drive and I didn't drive then we would not tell the state. So for 5 years I did not drive so the state, DMV Insurance company does not know of my E and still doesn't know. :noevil:
So know I'm going to sell my car because I can't drive it and I'm smart enough to know that if I do I put my life as well as the people around me in danger. Ok so here is the question. After I sell my car do I tell the insurance company the truth? Do you think they will ask me why I'm not purchasing and insuring another car? Do I give up my license to the state?

Ok so let me have it. Whats your opinion?

No need to tell the DMV or insurance folks anything. There's no reason for them to ask about why you're not driving anymore (for all they know, maybe you've become a biking fanatic). And hold onto your driver's license too. You may need it for identification purposes -- at least until you can get some sort of replacement ID for when your license eventually expires.

Several years ago before my diagnosis, after my divorce, I decided I was going to fix/overcome whatever this health thing was. I got a new job, bought a new car and bammm had a triple gm at work. Lost the job because of the sz and stopped driving shortly thereafter.

My drs know I dont drive, so they havent reported it to the dmv. My insurance agent knows I have E and its his mom that helps me get to appts and takes me on errands.

I've kept my drivers lic, its a good thing to have for many reasons and my ins agent agrees.

We remarried, I have my E diagnosis, we sold his older car and now my newer car is paid off. I can't imagine the insurance company will ask any/many questions. His insurance co didn't ask much when he called and said hed sold his car and wanted to cancel his insurance. (Different co and state then my insurance).

ok so my concern is how difficult is it to get auto insurance after you've gone lets say a year with out it? Is it like health insurance. Befor I went on my former companies insurance this year I had to provide them a letter from the old company that stated I had been insured for the last 18 months.

I agree with Nakamova, there is no need to give up your license or tell the insurance company. Follow Nakamova advice.

If you sell the car, no need for insurance; so when you have a car again in the future....in my experience it's been no problem getting insurance again.

Not really their business. Over the last few years I have known a few people that moved to NYC and no longer wanted the bill or hassle of a car. Insurance agent was just disappointed in losing a customer.
