My epilepsy is hereditary. It's been in our family for four generations. The other heath problem is stroke. I've heard that the only relation between the two is that stroke can cause seizures. In my family, 2 have died of stroke (grandfather and uncle both before age 60). My father has had 2 major strokes and numorous "bleeds". My sister has had TIA(?) strokes. All of the above had/have epilepsy since birth or at from an early age. What happens is the seizures always get worse at about age 45, then the strokes start. Is this scenario familiar to anyone? My son has epilepsy now as well. I've lost my health insurance recently so I haven't been in touch with a neurologist for a while-I've left messages and emails, but no response yet. Any/all info appreciated!

Thanks,
ceiliclare

Have you been tested for antiphospholipid antibodies in your blood? It is an autoimmune disorder that is often hereditary and runs in families. It causes your blood to have a tendency to clot more than it should. It can cause strokes, TIA's, seizures, leg pain, blood clots, etc. It can be treated. Might be worth looking into with the strong family history.

Thanks,

This was great timing Daisyd! I just got health insurance back and would have forgotten about this if you hadn't replied to the post. I will bring the info to my neurologist.

Wish you well,

Best of

luck to you with this, ceiliclaire. TIA's (trans ischemic attacks--I hope I spelled that right) can be just as dangerous in the long run as a stroke, if there are multiples of them....they leave scar tissues behind as well, and the brain has to learn to work around it. Some of us here have found that their E is caused by scar tissue in their brains......

I do so hope that there is a fairly simple solution for you......

Take care,

Meetz
