Just wondering if anyone with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (especially right sided) has even had, or heard of, someone having one sided facial weakness.

My 3 year old daughter has TLE, and was just put on meds mid september (clobazam) after a cluster of complex partials. Had a couple of complex partials since then but under pretty good control for the most part.

Then last week she had a speech assessment and they realized she seemed to have some right sided facial weakness (her focus on he EEG has always been the right TL) and the left side was pulling up more than the right when she spoke and sometimes when she smiles. (She had this happen in November too for about 6 weeks and we didn't realize until it had been happening for quite awhile and then the pediatrician thought it was nerve inflammation and not neurological). Anyways our pediatrician has seen her and we are waiting on the EEG report, and will be ordering an MRI since it has been 2.5 years since her last one, but i was just curious if anyone else has seen this.

Also during her speech assessment, she was looking at a picture of a dog's nose and knew what it was (she pointed to her nose) but couldn't say the word-she did finally say it but there was quite a delay. Shortly after that episode, she was similarly unable to say the word white, although she knew she wanted to say it because she pointed to the speech pathologists white sweater. I know my pediatrician said there are two possibilities for this kind of behaviour-one where they are searching for the word but don't know it (which it seems this isn't) and one where they just physically aren't capable of saying the word.

Anyone ever had these experiences before?

My seizures don't originate in the temporal lobe but they often spread to the left temporal lobe. I often have trouble speaking after my seizures though I don't know if I can speak or not until I try.

I don't think aphasia is unusual after a seizure.

Sorry i should clarify. When she was missing the words, she wasn't having a seizure (unless it was subclinical). When she has her seizures she doesn't speak at all or respond.

It is possible she's having seizures that nobody has been able to identify yet. Even now most people can't tell when I have a seizure.

On a different topic I moved this thread to the Kitchen since you'd already introduced yourself in the foyer.

No problem, it seems a lot of people really like the foyer.

Lol i was likely distracted by one of the four kids running around by house-i didn't even realize that's where i was posting. I usually dump my posts in the kitchen or nursery :)

She may be experiencing a form of Expressive Aphasia -- basically, patients with this kind of aphasia know what they want to say but can't express themselves. It can be a symptom of seizure activity and/or lesions in areas of the frontal lobe, as well as some migraine attacks, and is often accompanied by right-sided weakness.

I started out with sever Aphasia that would last for a while after seizures but got shorter over time as my body got used to having epilepsy. lots of my friends understood me through motions, i have a scar in my write temper lobe. but what causes my epilepsy may travel

I am having trouble with long post tonight that is caused by my epilepsy, and Dysgraphia woot!, moving words around as I type,
so I am going to try to keep things short,

That sounds exactly like it. Very interesting that you mention the right sided weakness too given that the ride side of her face has been having weakness issues. Hmmmmmmm....
