If your seizures only happened once a year, or once every 18 months or maybe even once every 6-8 months would you take your seizure medication or deal with the seizures? I've been reading some of the medication topics in the forum and they all sound like they can bring some pretty nasty side effects. I know that not all medications effect everybody the same way. Just wondering from those of you who do have seizures what your choice would be. :ponder:

It depends a bit on the kind of seizures you have, and what kind of environment you have them in. For example, if you drive, it can be pretty risky to have a seizure, and at minimum you can lose your driver's license. Another risk of going med-free is that the seizures will increase in frequency if left uncontrolled. That's what happened in my case. I tapered off my meds under my doctor's supervision, and then began having seizures closer and closer together. I eventually went back on meds.

If you want to consider the med-free option, it's worth considering other treatment approaches like diet or neurofeedback to see if they can boost the odds of staying seizure-free. Without no treatment plan in place, the next best thing is being vigilant: Keeping an eye out for any unusual symptoms, avoiding any potential seizure triggers, and keeping a detailed record of any seizures that do occur.

Thanks for the post Nakamova. I do remember now reading somewhere on the net that with each seizure the risk/odds of another increase. Something that I had forgotten until your comment. Thanks for reminding me.

Isuder - No, not at this point. She has an MRI today and then her first Neuro appointment on the 22nd. Uncertain if they want to start meds now based on one seizure and strong family history or if they want to hold off till seizure number two happens.
