Whenever I have a TC, I bite the hell out of several parts of my tongue. How long does it usually take your tongue to feel normal and be able to eat without pain? Does your doc ever give you anything for the pain? My last seizure was Thursday and I still have quite a bit of pain. I didn't bite it all the way through.

Anbesol (OTC medicine for mouth sores) can help. Also sucking a little bit of ice. Drink plenty of water too.

Stay away from vinegar salad dressing, citrus and tomatoes! I've never had a tonic clonic that I'm aware of but my cheeks and tongue are often tender in the mornings.
I think the problem with a sore tongue is preventing it from being bitten again sometimes!

I've always

used a watered down solution of hydrogen peroxide and water and gargled it. OK, it doesn't taste great, but it does help with pain, and it does help keep infection out as well. However, I am one that DOES bite all the way through my tongue. :paperbag: Then, it takes well....about a month, maybe a bit more, to heal. Sucks a hill o'beans.

Holy crap, Im glad I don't bite through, but this time has probably been the worst. I just gargled with peroxide and now my tongue feels all tingly, I think it helped some!

I usually use the peroxide as well.. and the ice cubes work well for me too. Usually takes me at least a week to heal up properly.

I always hear people saying that the tongue heals quickly, but it sure doesn't feel like it after a TC.

I hope you're feeling better soon!

It probably doesn't help that I make all my food spicy lol. I looove hot chile sauce on almost everything!

Why does the tongue always get bitten during a TC, anyway? It's not like you're sticking out your tongue. And I would have imagined that your jaw would stay clenched during it and that it wouldn't be moving in a chewing motion.
That's how I knew I definitely had a TC when I had mine- when I woke up my tongue was super sore from being bitten. I think it hurt for a couple weeks.

Have to

agree with ya there, Mommymela. It certainly does blow. Great way to go on an unwilling diet sometimes, too. :paperbag: *sigh*

I'm not sure exactly. on a daily basis though, my tongue tends to hang out on the right side of my mouth. That's the side of my tongue that always gets chewed up worse. For me the damage is done by just clamping down on my tongue when it's naturally resting between my teeth.
