Tonic cry-

My husband said I called out during the night recently and it scared him, I said "oh no" then let out an unusual cry. I asked if anything happened afterwords, he said he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I googled tonic cry and didn't find anything to show him.

I would have sworn I've seen something published about tonic crys before and now I can't find anything.

I know the crys have something to do with pushing all the air out from your lungs, but specifically how do they sound? Anyone know?

My kids heard me last Aug, but dont remember the sound or if I said anything before hand.

Its either the act of forcing it out, or in. depending on the person. It literally sounds like a gradual scream/yell for most people. like shrieking on a rollercoaster ride as it plummets. Mine tend to sound like growls, as my teeth clench a few seconds before the tonic cry

My husband says I have them. He says I literally scream at the top of my lungs. He is scared the neighbors are going to call the police because he states that it is a shrilling type of scream for me. He states it is right before the seizure hits and that is how he knows the seizure is going to hit and how bad the seizure is going to be (It does not happen with every seizure). I do not remember any of this when it hits so I rely on what he tells me.

It can sound like a blood-curdling scream. Scary, but not actually a scream caused by fear or pain, more an involuntary forcing or inhaling of breath.

Oh how I know those... I've heared them far too many. My boy has them too. He has had all kinds of seizures you can think off. The cry/scream only comes out with the tonics, especially with the big stiff cramps: his arms go wide open, his face shows a terrified mask and the cry seems to come out of his toes. It sounds like another voice instead of his own. We consider these the worst seizures of all, even worse than the big tc's.
