There is a family history of blood clots and my gran died of one that spread that began in her leg. I know it is unlikely, but the Topamax Sprinkles capsules says in the leaflet that a possible side effect is blood clots.
Although I do get partial seizures and have been going to the hospital (Hope Hospital, now Salfdord Royal - same hospital, new name) for years (12), they wouldn't prescribe me anything as they think that if you don't lose consciousness, then it's not seizures!!!:soap:
They put in a letter to my GP "We have not started him on a treatment plan as we do not feel it would be appropiate or neccessary."!
They also cancelled the 5 day EEG video telemetry test and have all but discharged me. They want me to manage on up to 100 or more partial seizures on bad days completely uncontrolled!
I did see the PALS team there, which consisted of one person, who was definately not, as PALS advertised, independant, and was working in the interests of the hospital rather than the patients - he wouldn't submit my complaints and kept fobbing me off and promising to ring, he didn't ring once. So I have gone over his head and made a formal complaint about the treatment at this hospital (I have a long list lol). I am currently waiting on an appointment for the Walton centre in Liverpool as I am finished with Salford Royal, they are ueseless.
Anyway, as I get headaches, I asked my GP if I could have Topamax for the headaches, when I really wanted it for the seizures, but I couldn't get anything else prescribed because he can't do that without the neurologists say so. Topamax would have been the last sezure medication I would have tried, but it was the only one available to me.
But shortly after I started taking the Topamax, I started getting a pain in my calf in the left leg. I am nbow also getting it above the knee.
I went to the walk in centre and they said if it gets worse or if I have breathing difficulties, to go straight to A+E.
Last night, I did have breathing dificulties. I have difficulty breathing when doing exercise, but never lying down, so was prescribed an inhalor. For the firwst time last night, I used it for none-exercise related breathing difficulties. I had forgotten about this till after I left the walk in centre though, me and my memory. lol
Is this anything to worry about and has anyone got any advice?
