My son (we suspect) had a seizure yesterday morning. He had almost made it 10 weeks since his last one. His father saw him staring out the window yesterday morning, and it took him a couple of times of calling his name before he responded. We rarely see his seizures because they are so quick (less than 10 seconds), but it's the dreaded post-ictal phase that lasts for days. The school nurse had called me to say he was sleeping in her office. She said he was fine to keep sleeping there, so we stayed in touch about every hour. He slept for 3 hours! She got him up, he had lunch, and went back to class. When I picked him up later, I could tell he wasn't 100% right, but he seemed to be in his right mind, which was a relief.
Well, for some reason, his post-ictal state seems to be very minor this time. His short-term memory is gone, for the most part. He couldn't remember what he had for lunch when I asked. But, his mental awareness seemed to be in full swing. His concentration seemed un-affected this time too! We had his 3rd neurofeedback appointment last night. He was able to sit in the chair for an hour, playing video games on my phone, which is something that was impossible for him to do during previous post-ictal states.
I put him to bed early last night, and he got up with little effort this morning. I sent him to school because for the most part, he seemed fine. He's a little quieter than normal, but when I talked to him, he seemed like he was in his right mind. I'm just waiting for the school to call me, but so far, my phone is quiet. I really hope he's completely back to normal by tonight. I sent his teachers and the nurse an e-mail, to let them know, just in case anything changes throughout the day.
