I'm a bit shaken up at the moment. I'm laying in bed watching a music video on my phone & bopping away a lil bit. Out of the blue, I have an uncontrollable urge to stare. It's a bit difficult to describe what happened so bare with me. I don't really remember what happened but I do remember taking a breath quite loudly afterwards and my face flushing. I think I blacked out but only for a few seconds?!. The track was still playing on my phone so it wasn't long. I don't really remember what happened during the time I was staring and that's concerning me. I have a bit of a headache in the occipital region aswell.

It's shaken me up a bit so any advice as to what happened would be appreciated.

Thanks

It sounds like you could have had a complex partial seizure. Are these the types of seizures that you have?

When I have those I always black out. I'll also have a very bad headache after them a good bit of the time.

I usually black out for a few minutes and I normally don't know that I have had one unless there is someone there to see it happen. There may be things in wrong places in the house that I've picked up and moved or done and didn't know I did it because I've blacked out so I know I've probably had one then. But everyone is different when it comes to these types of things.

Any repetitive movements eg picking at something/automatisms? Lip smacking/yawning/chewing? Was that breath, kind of wide-mouthed? Any grogginess/confusion/tiredness, along with the headache?

I agree with valeriedl- I don't think it sounds like an absence. The 'staring spell' in this case would be much more likely to be a partial-complex.

I agree with the others -- it sounds like a complex seizure. If you keep a seizure/symptom diary definitely make a note of it. If this is a new symptom (or even if it isn't), contact your neuro so you can discuss whether it makes sense to adjust your medication. Stay safe.

Thanks for all your advice, i usually have partials so I was a bit freaked out last night. As far as I know there were no repetitive movements? I can't remember. I was alone when it happened so that's why I was scared. I'm seeing the Neuro tomorrow so it looks like I have another story to tell him *major eye roll*

I don't normally blackout so how everyone here deals with their conditions I'll never know. scared the shit out of me tbh.

Good luck at the neurologist!

I usually tell my friends I'm the luckiest one in the room when I'm having a t-c - coz I don't have to see a mate going through it..
