Feeling like an idiot. Finally went a month without a seizure. Reluctantly decided to join my wife and daughter for a trip to Atlanta. Five nights in a hotel. Knew it was too much 😔 The trip down took about 10 hours between getting to the airport, flying and checking in. It’s too much. Had a seizure the first night and spent the rest of the time in the hotel room. If I had the strength I would have flown home the next day.
I believe the month I had seizure free had a lot to do with my fractured shoulder. Where I was unable to do much and was getting plenty of sleep.
I’m done traveling for now.
((Rant over))

I'm sorry about the seizure. 😢

Please don't beat yourself up over taking the trip - how were you supposed to know?? I hope once you got home you felt better quickly. **hugs**

Thanks CathyAnn šŸ¤—
It was a unique return once I got home. I experienced what a ā€œgood cryā€ feels like for the first time. Along with my own woes, I was mostly thinking about how awful it must be for my family to see me in such anguish.
I then transitioned into a state of blissful peace. Thankful for all I have and have done in my life. Music sounded incredible and the fresh air was invigorating. Especially after breathing recycled hotel A/C for five nights. This mentally upbeat and positive experience lasted for over a day with only 3 hours of sleep. I didn’t want the day to end. Simply wasn’t tired.
Thankfully I never reached the manic state where I have had daytime seizures. The Nayzilam rescue inhaler appears to be doing its job. Thanks again

Funny - Not Funny
We all have Covid. I might not of had a seizure after all. I may have misjudged my thc intake upon arrival home as well.

I’m declining the 30 + day streak alive!!!

ā€œRight now I’m having amnesia and dĆ©jĆ  vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.ā€

Well damn..and I bet that is part of feeling so crappy on vacation. As for the thc, it can make things worse if you're sick. At least it does for me.

Yup
I meant to say I’m declaring (not declining) my 30 plus seizure free streak alive šŸ™„

Kinda wacky I’d prefer Covid over a seizure. The whole family has it so no major precautions / changes in the house. I’ll need to reschedule a few Dr appointments, but besides that my day won’t change much.

I understand what you mean about vacations/travel & seizures. On the vacations our family has taken--(previously to the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore), & last year to California, I was totally fine.
On the other hand, last year (Dec22/Jan 2023), we had to attend a wedding in Atlanta. I warned him/kept telling my husband that if I'm forced to stay up late 2 or 3 nights in a row, I will probably have a seizure, despite taking all my meds. Guess what? I knew what I was talking about!! While sitting at his friend's house, I had a complex partial!!

Happy to say I just got back from wiggling my toes in the sand out on cape cod.
I don’t want to jinx myself but, the surgery I had in March is a complete success so far.
It’s been a game changer
Thanks to everyone here for your kindness and support.

Another thing that I know causes severe stress for me is going to formal functions with my mother without my husband. Either while there or soon after I'm sure to have a complex partial seizure--even if I take my meds shortly before the party. She still treats me like I'm a little kid, asking me things I NEVER heard her ask my younger sister even when we WERE kids!!

I can imagine how tough it must have been for you, but taking a break from traveling sounds like a smart move. Sometimes, focusing on your well-being is the best choice.

Traveling can be overwhelming, especially when you're dealing with health issues. I had a similar experience a few years back. I had to fly for a work trip and decided to upgrade to business class flights. It made such a difference. The extra space and comfort really helped me manage the stress of traveling. The flight itself was way more relaxed, and I felt better prepared for the trip overall. I can imagine how tough it must have been for you, but taking a break from traveling sounds like a smart move. Another trip another seizure. I was feeling good and had a great visit with my son. He was in a horse jumping event in Virginia. Had the seizure in the morning after we had gotten home late the night before. Thankfully I didn’t fall and recovering is much better after my surgery.
I slept really well, and certainly didn’t overdo it.
So frustrating.

I’m really sorry to hear about the seizure, especially after what sounds like a wonderful trip and visit with your son. It must be so frustrating to feel like you’re doing everything right, getting rest, taking it easy, and still have a seizure sneak up like that. It’s good to hear you didn’t fall, though.

The trip sounds so worth it, though
How did it go for your boy? I imagine being there for moments like that makes all the challenges feel just a little more manageable.

We stayed at a Airbnb that was on a horse farm. The weather was nice and the views spectacular. The Airbnb was surprisingly inexpensive too. I had my morning coffee on the small 2nd floor deck. Trying to stay positive. Thanks

I enjoy traveling. I actually like to take road trips more than plane trips, since you get to see the beauty of the country and take pictures. Part of it may be all the camping & road trips we did when I was a kid. Camping is one thing I miss A LOT--my husband shows no interest in it. He did earlier, when a friend that lived by us said we'd go together (they had an RV). When they had to move due to a child's health issues, he's given up on it.

The joys of traveling with epilepsy. It can be so unnerving. I flew to see an old friend a couple of months ago. I’m in my sixties, went alone, I was so stressed from the navigating airports and flying. I stayed three nights, but could not sleep, went back a day earlier due to the anxiety from not sleeping. I didn’t want to have a seizure, I felt so defeated.

I had a seizure a couple of weeks later… the feelings of isolation and loneliness from something I only have so much control over is overwhelming. Blessings to you and yours.

Sorry to hear that you had a seizure. Stress/tension or lack of sleep can often trigger them for me too, even when I have taken all of my medications. Sometimes, a complex partial seizure has occurred just hours after I took a dose of medication!

Thank you! Right, the triggers are always lurking, and so true that medication doesn’t always do its job. It took me decades to be my own health advocate, and to realize that medication is just part of the treatment/prevention.
