I was back at the neuroscience centre the other day for my MRI, since the epilepsy specialist requested a new one (since ten years when i was first diagnosed which showed nothing)
They did the MRI scan as normal, and just as i was arranging my transport home they came after me and said i'd have to go have another one. The images from the first turned out fine but this time they wanted to do one with some cod liver oil taped to my head. I know how MRI's work etc and how the water in the tissues make the images, so understand how the oil would show different. They said it was so the neuro could tell the left side of my head but it's weird that they shouted me back after the first scan and then did this test. And it was a different scan frequency because the techno music (thud thud ba-bumcha thud) was different to before.
I just found it odd, i've only heard of them doing that when they're marking out something specific, usually just before surgery.
Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm not all that worried, it just seemed really strange. Could they have seen something on the first scan that they wanted to do another to clarify it?
