i am photosensitive. i know the obvious ones like strobe lights, photo flashes, certian video games. i know my last grand mal was triggered by the sunlight coming in through the bus window (we were going through a row of trees, and stupid me continues to look out the window)

what else do i have to look out for?

Don't feel bad about not knowing about the sunlight's effect on seizures, Crazychick. It's pretty unusual and at the bottom of the "list."

If you have photosensitive epilepsy, here are some things to avoid -- although you know about most of them already. A trigger could be exposure to television screens due to the flicker or rolling images, computer monitors, certain video games or TV broadcasts containing rapid flashes or alternating patterns of different colors.

And as you've learned, seizures may be triggered by natural light, such as sunlight, especially when shimmering off water, sun flickering through trees or even through the slats of Venetian blinds.

The only photosensitivity I've had was with old fluorescent lighting, but it was definitely a problem for me.

It just about made me crazy. I had ceiling flourescent lights and then a flourescent light in my desk lamp...all going in different frequencies. It would have made anyone cross-eyed!

crazychick,

Did you consider flashing lights on emergency vehicles or Christmas trees?

i thought about the vehicle lights...we have twinkling tree lights every year and they don't really bother me unless i stare directly at them for like 30 minutes, i guess because they're so tiny.

I know I had seizure triggered by watching Batman movie at the theater. I am ok watching movies I home

RanMan,
Emergency vehicle lights are a pretty big one for me. if not a tonic clonic its a complex partial. poopy.

that stinks. i almost had a grand mal in a resturant one day because my brother was next to me playing some really flashy fighting game on his psp

i've also dealt with some idiot guys in class who sit near the window, and would flash lights in my face with their cell phone screens. and when the teacher took the phone, they had an ipod. when the teacher took the ipod, they had a mirror, then a backup mirror, and so on and so forth. i hate people who do stuff like that. thank god they're not in my class anymore.

Big Box store lights. I always wear sunglasses in these. WalMart is particularly bad.

Walmart is horrible. Sears sucks too because they have all the pretty shiney silver and crystal stuff on the top floor. pots and pans and glasses and mirrors that just glitter all the light each time someone walks past them. makes me feel like i have vertigo
