I need to know what is really goin to happen at my first eeg appt. Can somebody plz help me out. I'm very nervous and confused.

No need to be nervous or confused. I had an inpatient EEG at Mayo Clinic and they just put electrodes on your skull using a special glue. The wires will go to a machine that records your EEG.

They flashed strobe lights and made me breathe fast and sleep for 30 mins, but that's about it. You really just lay there.

bring a hat, the electrodes dont hurt or nothing but the paste they use will really mess up your hair.

I agree with everyone. There is absolutely nothing to worry about. It is harmless, painless and the only thing you have to be concerned with is messy hair. Take care and relax. Everything will be fine.

I had my first one 5 days ago. It wasn't bad. They just put gross stuff in your hair to stick the electrodes to. It doesn't hurt and it washes out with shampoo. I got super lightheaded for the rapid breathing part so they let me stop. The strobe lights weren't fun to look at but that part passed quickly. For the most part I layed down with my eyes closed, it was relaxing.

Advice to bring a hat it great -- you will definitely have a bad hair day when they're done with you.

We usually give Jon a buzz cut right before an EEG so the electrode glue stuff can wash out easier. Of course, that's not an option for the ladies, but we found that rubbing conditioner into the glue spots helps loosen it up and it slides right down the hair shaft. Then wash with shampoo, then put in conditioner and comb through -- that should get the final remnant, then rinse really well. Sometimes it washes out with shampoo no problem -- depends on who's putting it on - the ones for the longer EEGs usually are a little more firmly affixed.

Hope your test give you and your doc some answers!
