My boyfriend and I play checkers all the time. We're trying to find another two player game. Something other than chess and it doesn't take a long time to play. Any suggestions?

Dominos (mexican train etc.)

Uno (card game)

Jigsaw puzzles (not a game per se, but nice activity to do together)

Dunno how "complicated" you wanna go, but I've recently learned how to play cribbage. I put it like that because it does require some math (although very simple) and a little bit of poker (for points, not betting). Just trying to see how many ways you can add up to 15 both with your hand and (if it's your turn) the crib. Requires a small peg board to keep score and a deck of 52 cards. First to 121 or more wins.

The whole family plays Uno and Trouble a good bit. It's not too bad playing with two people.

We really like the completive games. I think one of the reasons we like checkers so much is because it's a little completive, if that's the best way to describe it. We love it when we block the other person in or when they run out of tiles.

I just found a box of games, I'm going to look through it and see what all is in it. Dominos is one of them. I'll have to see if I can figure out how to play or I'll look on youtube it.

I'd love some more suggestions though!

It's silly, but I still enjoy playing War. Look into Pente. It's got all you're looking for. I still have my original one with a roll up mat and pretty glass pieces. Highly recommend.

Battle ship and go fish are both really fun games

And don't take long to complete either

What about Jenga?

I personally find it annoying, but it's a quick game to play

We also have Giant Jenga. 😃
My hand tremors keep me away from the original game.
I would like to start playing cribbage this winter.

Go - the game of black and white stones used to cover the board

Backgammon - two different colored stones setup on a board each having different areas on the board each needing to find their way back to home base by the roll of the dice. I learned how to build my strategy with this

Jenga - the game each person take turns removing a wooden block on your turn avoiding the tower to fall. Should tower start to fall from that wooden block there is so much time to quickly place the brick back before the entire tower collapses.

Mahjong is another fun game that can be played more than one person. It has been called Siamese Mahjong because it is played with two people so when looking on You Tube for guidance that would be the best keyword to use.

Someone just introduced me to the "Penny Drop Game." You'll need to buy the box and have some pennies, but it's different and fun. It comes with one die. The object of the game is to get rid of all of your pennies (however many everyone agrees to start with). Roll the die and whatever number you get, you put the penny in the slot. However, 6's are your best friend because you just put it in the box with no worries because it goes into the box and never has a penny there. Everyone must roll once when it is his/her turn. You can roll again if you want, but then if you land on a slot that already has a penny then you have to take all of the pennies on the board and it's the next person's turn. Whoever runs out of pennies first (landing on 6's and/or leaving them in the slots), wins. For once, you want to LOSE your money 😂

I enjoy many of those games--Uno & Connect 4. My favorite, though, is Scrabble or doing jigsaw puzzles.

I believe no one's mentioned 20 questions which you can play without a board
Someone thinks of someone (or something), and then the other person has to guess what/ or who, it is!. (it could be literally anything!)

The person thinking of it can only answer yes or no- I love picking really obscure ones when I play to try and stump people!

Another game I just thought of is hangman--all you need is paper & a pen or pencil.

Rack-o is a lot of fun, easy to learn and competitive. 2-4 players. This game has been around for 50+ years. One of my faves, surprised I didn’t mention it earlier.

The girl and are are going to try a co-op Playstation game called split-faction. It is supposed to be really good. There are a few what I find to be quieter and darker and slower paced video games play together, and a few we have learned to heed the epilepsy warnings.
