I was NEVER told about triggers to watch out for from any DR.
I sound like a broken record..but again it was this forum that I first heard of a trigger

My neurologist did say to avoid stress. And one time she said that having an infection could lower seizure threshold. But she never asked what I had been eating or drinking before my first seizures, or suggested I keep a seizure diary.

Like you, I've learned a lot more here at CWE...

My epileptologist did tell me stress, alcohol, illness, and abuse (verbal, physical) could lower my seizure threshold. Oh, and we did discuss "that time of the month", which used to be a trigger for me.

I was told to look out for any from my neurologist but he never actually used the word trigger.

I've found out mine are stress, tiredness, alchohol and hyperventilating (like when i'm working out)

These comments are so interesting. Are the doctors not on the same page? It seems that everyone has different MD experiences and everyone learns more here than at the MD.... grrrr! Do these sites have active MD members.

Thats a good question about triggers,i was certainly told about alcohol and drugs, but i cant really remember much more.Funnily enough it was epilepsy that taught me about mine,i would have a seizure and work back and see if there had been anything diffirent prior to the seizure, drinking, stress(etc)

CWE told me about triggers. and pretty much everything else. My neuros were not willing to offer up much information.

Years ago my first neurologist told me about lowering your threshold (I guess can be considered a trigger) with water. I was on some crazy diet where you needed to drink six glasses of water at once and then wait to eat hours later. Numerous little break-through seizures. I worked at a hospital then and he happened to walk into the department where I worked and I told him what was happening and he told me how by drinking all that water and not eating it was throwing my electrolytes off and in turn causing the break-through seizure activity. He told me how potentially dangerous that could be for anyone, let alone someone with epilepsy. I felt pretty stupid because it seemed so obvious, but by having experienced the break-through seizure activity and him just happening to be at the right place at the right time, it made me from that day forward pay more attention to what was happening to me and what had I been doing maybe days or hours just before. Of course, still learning and CWE and all of you have really been helpful.
