Not for me they can't...I don't digest potatoes properly...or any starches for that matter...they give me an upset stomach and give me methane...starches aren't good for you anyway

actually sorry to read that one, if it helps any, once my epilepsy got worse, I developed issues with carbs, started caused issues with psychosis and breaks, had to cut down on burritos the way i like them. developed weight issues to, because I was used to eating like an athlete so lots of fast carbs, and burning them off.

right...most carbs I eat are fresh fruit or vegetables or steamed rice or slow cooked black beans...stuff like that...no bread...my diet is pretty much gluten free...I'll only have it on occasion when I want some junk like a burger or whatever...but I probably shouldn't be eating that junk even on occasion...but yeah the healthier stuff is more expensive (were on a budget) and well the whole point of eating junk on occasion is to have a "cheat meal" away from your consistently healthy diet...I practice moderation though and I've developed a strong sense of control/pride in eating healthy/exercising...I don't become addicted though and I don't indulge like most people...there's no excuse for excuses...you have to be responsible...

my wife doesn't care as much as I do and that causes me to fall away from my strict diet sometimes...but it's nothing major...I'm strict with my diet but I never want to become a food Nazi lol

A gluten free diet may be next on the table for me, special diets are a lot easier when you live alone, and I will probably cut back on the butter, but not sure if it controls my seizures or not yet, but I can go for months sometimes without a seizure, and if it diet that controls it. I will probably be pissed at my self. Because I can do without very easily.

Most people find that gluten free diets benefit their digestive system greatly (not to mention you lose a good amount of belly fat)...my wife for one is gluten-intolerant...I would say I am lactose and starch intolerant...but I can still eat small quantities of cheese...it's just milk that is a major no no for me...it also increases mucus/allergies greatly...the casein protein in milk is also harder to digest for adults which is why only infants/children should be consuming it...not adults...as far as butter goes...I don't care for it...there are much better alternatives...such as coconut oil...which is 100% better than butter...I use it in everything I cook...my wife uses butter sometimes...it's okay to eat every now and then but should never be your main source for flavor or whatever...

If you're concerned about getting fats into your body/brain butter should definitely not be your only option lol...I'd go with raw nuts (cooked if you're allergic), natural peanut butter (should only say peanuts and maybe salt nothing else), avocados, flax seed, fish oil, coconut oil and even dark chocolate are all fine...dark chocolate also has anti-oxidants...just make sure it is minimally processed...there are also other good alternatives...research is your friend :) (there's fats in just about everything...well you know what I mean...the fats in healthy chicken egg yolks are great for one just don't eat too many of them)
