I would love to see the look on my epilepsy nurses face when she finds out that I have been in hospital for 3weeks after being hit by a 2.5 tonne transit van and. I am still alive despite having to get the 3 breaks in my pelvis plated and bolted back together , suprisingly enough not walking yet but just managing odd steps hopefully won't be long before I am out of this hospital bed an back out with my birdies

Were you hit as a pedestrian or in a vehicle to vehicle accident? Either way - ouch!

My wife and I were on our way to do a fund raising display with birds of prey reptiles snakes and spiders etc when we saw this inJured dove so we pulled over and I jumped out to go and get it apparently according to my wife I had just bent down and picked up this dove when bang a transit mini bus came out of nowhere ( I didn't see it at all ) the driver said he didn't stop till I had come out the back of his van as he didn't want me to get stuck under his van (has this guy no idea what emergency services do for a living lol) I woke up in accident and emergency and asked my wife what happened and where we were. When she replied “you've been hit by a transit “ I thought she was joking because as far as I knew people that got hit by transit vans only came away in wooden boxes. I have had my pelvis smashed in 3 places and bolted and plated back together again I have spent 2 weeks in sheffields northern general hospital followed by a week in bassetlaw hospital which is only 200yrds from my house good news is I'm going home on monday where I can continue looking after 3 baby tawny owls and 2 baby little owls at home while my wife continues doing the demos for me many thanks for all your concerns I am gratefull

My wife showed ne one of my steel toecap boots I was wearing when it happened and it had all been un peeled from around the sole and ripped the toecap off taking the top 2-3 mm of my toe off with it, these boots were less than a week old. They look like someone has ripped them off using a tin opener anyone think I could get a refund on them lol

Maybe a commercial deal. Send a picture of the shoe and your story to the manufacturer and thank them for protecting your feet as much as they did. You never know.

Hi Robin, my sense of humour and sarcasm comes from years of listening to my fathers wit but I am a strong believer in laughing at what ever has happened is far better than sitting and crying over it. I know there are people out there who don't believe me about what happened because of my way of laughing at it but laughing makes me feel far better and when I get out of this hospital on monday I will feel as high as a kite (without drugs lol)

get over how you're managing to take this all in stride so well, but the positive attitude is the best thing to help you heal. You are one lucky man though. And I think Mr. B has a great idea about the commercial opportunity for the boots. That would be one heckuva commercial for that company. Literally. :bigsmile:

I was over the moon yesterday after managing to walk (with a zimmer frame )the full length of the corridor and back 3 times this corridor is about 200 meteres long yes I admit its very slow but I think its definately a good sign

So far today I have walked that same corridor twice and then my in laws turned up so I asked them if we could go for a walk an this time we got as far as the lifts which are at least twice the length of the corridor away from my bed yes it took a long time but I made it there and back which I am really pleased about the physios took me this morning for a trek up a flight of stairs and that was hard work after spending 45years walking right leg first they wanted me to do it left leg first so having to stop and think before everey move just makes it even harder I didn't manage it properly so they want me to do it again tomorrow before they will let me go home

Back to my family that I have missed so much even though they haver been to see me every day without fail I think its more the home bit
