PMS does it to me every time! Since I have been on Keppra those are the only ones not under control. Is there anything I can do about those? I also get a raging headache after every seizure that NOTHING works for. I have tried from Tylenol to Dilaudid and everything in between. I would love advice!!

Hi, Sunnybunny,.

Sorry about the seizures. They suck. So do the headaches.

I get postictal (post-seizure) headaches, too. They range from a regular headache to a brain-splitting migraine, and last anywhere from a day to 2 weeks. Ugh. The only thing that helps my headaches even a little is to pack my head and neck in ice and lie really still in a cool, dark, quiet room.

My epi has sent me to a headache specialist. This guy is seriously smart. If he can't solve this, nobody can. We're just beginning the process, but my hope is that my headaches and my seizures have a common root cause that can be treated, so no more seizures, no headaches. Wouldn't that be grand? That's an outside chance, though. Most likely he'll help me find medication that doesn't make me feel even worse, and still takes away the headache right away, which would be quite the gift.

Hi Endless,

I feel for you! I have done the headache specialists too. I once had a headache that lasted 26 days! They pumped me full of steroids and it finally went away but man was that miserable. My doc said the same thing. Treating the seizures will treat the headaches. For the most part that has been true, but when I do have a breakthrough seizure (PMS) the headache is just awful. I really hope that you can find some relief! I guess I always have menopause to look forward to. :)

Hey sunnybunny, have you asked your doc about treatment with progesterone? Usually catamenial seizures are due to high levels of estrogen or low levels of progesterone.

Nakamova,
I had no idea that even existed! I looked it up and wow! I will talk to the doc about it, thanks so much!
