As some may know, Salford Royal's 5 day EEG test didn't go ahead despite promises it definitely would.

Well I recently got a diagnosis of epilepsy at the Walton Centre in Liverpool.
The neurologist also said if I wanted, I could have a 5 day EEG test and said to think about it, there's not a big waiting list.

Well I had wanted the 5 day EEG test at Salford Royal as I had no diagnosis at that point and hadn't for 13 years. But now I've got one.

I have simple partial seizures, they have always been the seizures I have had.
But after strange things were happening, I filmed myself one night and had a grand mal or whatever they are called on the camera. I stupidly deleted it after watching it, it scared me, and I just wanted to deny it. It happened at night.

I don't know if it was just a one off or not. But some nights, I wake up from what has seemed like a full nights sleep not feeling like I've had a full night's sleep if that makes sense, really tired as if I've had no sleep.

I know my Topamax needs increasing as I am on the headache dose due to no diagnosis till recently, got an appointment on Friday with my GP.

If I take the 5 day video EEG test, if it comes back normal, will that affect my diagnosis and I'll be back to square one? I'm in two minds whether or not to take it.

Honestly that's a tought question. I m going though that same thing right now. Please let me know what you find out.

Can you ask your neurologist how the 5-day EEG might affect your diagnosis or treatment? If they don't think it will change anything, you could possibly give it a miss. If they do recommend it, make sure they are aware that a negative EEG doesn't prove anything one way or another. Especially with simple partials, some seizures originate too deep in the brain to show up on an EEG.

Yeap, I was going to say the same thing. I was having alot of simple partial seizures during my VEEG last year and alot of them never showed up on the EEG. Made my dr think they were non-epileptic seizures. He wanted me to see a psych dr, which I did for him, and we then found out that after being put back on Keppra XR, the seizures stopped and then it was confirmed that what I was having during the VEEG was indeed true epileptic seizures. They were too deep to be detected on the EEG. That was over a year ago.
