Does anyone take any of the acid reflux meds. and how does effect your seizures?

I just take Tums, as needed. The dr. prescribed acid reflux meds but I found they constipate me so I stopped. I also try to watch what I eat so I don't get heartburn that much.
When I was taking the heartburn meds it did not affect my seizure control at all.

If possible, try and avoid taking acid reflux meds over the long-term. They can potentially mess with absorption of some nutrients (magnesium, folate, B12) that are beneficial to people with seizure disorders. Other nutrients such as a calcium, zinc, iron, and vitamins D & A can also be mal-absorbed as a result of acid-blockers.

Definitely try to control acid reflux with diet first. Speak to a nutritionist or dietitian, or look online to find which foods have a low acid content, and avoid or at least minimize those foods with a high acid content.
Weight loss for those who are overweight can also reduce acid reflux.
Sleeping with your upper body on a bit of an incline can help, so that any acid trying to roll up the esophagus just ends up rolling back down to the stomach before it gets too far. Also avoid eating 3 hours before bed.
Eating smaller meals more often can help so the stomach isn't having to work so hard to digest a large amount of food at one time.
See your doctor if these measures do not work after giving them a good try. GERD can be associated with GI disorders such as celiac disease. Long-term acid reflex can also lead to permanent damage to the esophagus.

I was having problems with reflux and then I heard about melatonin. Does the same thing as anti reflux meds without the side effects. I did check with my neurologist before starting and she OK'd it. I take 10 mg about 30 minutes before bed. Works like a charm!
