I had read in another post (I can't find it though) that someone takes adivan for their headaches after seizures.

When I looked it up on the internet I saw it is used for anxiety and it seems like it is a drug to be taken regulary instead of when needed.

When I have seizures alot of times after the seizure I'll have a horrible headache where nothing will help it, and I've tried several different meds. I went to a headache clynic and they gave me Sumatriptan Succinate Injection. The neuro gives me Butal-APAP.

Neither one of these really doesn't do anything but knock me out, but I may wake up in a few hours and the headache is still there.

I go to see the neuro on Thursday and I'd like to know if this is something that maybe I should mention to him to try using.

When I was little and still living with my parents, up to the age of 19, whenever I would have a seizure, normally a big one, she would give me adivan when the seizure was over. I had a huge headache after all my seizures, and she would give me half of one and it would knock me out the rest of the day. I can totally relate to the headaches after seizures.

I havnt had to have the adivan since 2000... or so. They did give me some adivan while in the hospital in March doing a VEEG. I had a big one the day before I was released and the nurses gave me some to calm things down.

Ativan isn't usually prescribed for headaches. It's main use is for anxiety, but it can also be prescribed to stop seizures -- on a short-term basis. My neurologist wrote me a prescription for Ativan (also known as Lorazepam) when I went on a trip to Europe. The idea was that if I had a seizure, but didn't want to deal with a foreign hospital, the Ativan would help stop the seizure. Ativan is a benzodiazepine though, so it's not recommended for regular, long-term use. (Benzos carry all sorts of risks for tolerance, dependence, and addiction, and the longer you are on them, the more hellish the withdrawal process).

I tend to take one after a tc to help calm things down. Also I find them really handy to take before bed sometimes, on days when I've been having sp's or just lots of auras. Most of my tc's are nocturnal so ativan helps relax me before bed and acts as a supplement to my lamictal.

Benzo's do scare me though, so I try not to take more than two a week.
