Hi there,

Just wondering what people experience after a seizure, besides exhaustion. Is it normal to have a queasy stomach even a week later and how about being emotional???? My husband - who never cries or shows much emotion - has twice this past week (since his seizure a week ago) burst into tears. And that's never happened to him before. He says that he wasn't even upset and the tears came out of nowhere. This is all new to us and he's had 3 nocturnal seizures since Feb. Any thoughts???

Thank you so much,
Sue

It's possible the queasy stomach and the tears are actually seizures -- they could be simple and/or complex partials, which can take the form of unusual sensations, including nausea, as well as inappropriate emotions or changes in personality.

Well i know i get queasy stomach afterwards, about 5 hours later i have to start with oj to comfort it down. Some of the emotions i show are from my cocktail of meds i am taking. Ome emotion is i get embarrsed for people seeing me have a seizure, i will not go back around them for a week, it hard a i sing in a church choir. I will not get up in front of people and talk, as i feel i may have a seizure ( but that me).

Nausea is a given for me and yes if my seizures are especially active, complex or t/c's the side effects can last for many days and into a week. Thus when I have a few days of feeling good I try to eat real meals!

As nana1 said some meds can change your emotions.

I notice now that if I'm watching a tv show or movie and something sad happenes during it I'll just want to burst out into tears, I was never like that before.

Recently there was a show on that a character I loved was killed. I'll bet I cried for close to an hour after! I kept telling myself - He's only a tv actor, it's not like the guy was actually killed in real life. But no luck I just kept bawling.

Hi,
I have been seizure free for 5 years then bang a seizure out of the blue but I know after this seizure I was alot more 'emotional', crying for no reason, feeling sick & definitely don't want to eat. I'm putting it down to shock of a seizure again after so long- I thought it was behind me

After seizure effects

I am fairly new to this also (in diagnosis) and am so glad you asked. I began having tonic clonic seizures last August. I have always been "a guy" when it comes to emotions. To start I am all over the map after. I have cluster tonic clonic that usually last 45-60 mins until the IM ativan stops the event. I usually am thirsty and starving immediately afterwards (with a strong preference for very sugary snacks like ice cream or cake):woot: Not any help for the waistline (I was a model before this and gaining 50+ lbs in a month).

I fall asleep sometime after and sleep the better part of 18-24 hours. I can't go to work much less function. Sometimes I will wake up eat drink and back to sleep. The next few days my body is still in the usual pain. My back problems are exacerbated by the seizures and often I am in bed reading, minimal tv a few more days. I cry for no reason, emotions all over the board.:agree:

i used to cry none stop after a sezure! i couldnt help it i didnt even know what was going on so it wasnt a sad thing i just seemed to cry :(

I am still in the process of being diagnosed with a seizure disorder. I feel that after I have one, I am really tired and my eyes are extremely heavy like i haven't slept in days. I can only sleep for 4-6 hours at a time. Sometimes I get really nauseated. Other times I can be hungry but i just can't bring myself to eat. And I always have terrible headaches that i get no relief from. Also, I have aches and pains all over my body and my short term memory is basically gone.

Thank you Hand of Blood. i had terrible seizure today. Later broke down crying and had no reason- thought of this post and was able to just cry, let it pass and move forward. Thank you!

I feel sick after a seizure as well, have to sleep, and cannot eat ( except for milk and biscuits ) for at least 24 hrs, do not even feel hungry, the emotional part as well. But that's all part of it.

I've had

the nausea after several t/c's (tonic-clonics) but not all of them. It varied with the meds I was on at the time.

As for crying....it was a 60/40 split crying/not crying. I was ALWAYS ticked off afterwards....and sometimes just so flippin' disgusted that I cried. Sure, I was in pain...I have had some rotten injuries, but the pain didn't bother me so much. What bothered me the most was the fact that the seizure HAPPENED. :paperbag:

*SIGH*
