Alcohol is clearly NOT my friend.

I've been doing really good the past few weeks on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but 2 days ago I went to a party and drank a bit too much. Now I've been in a fog the past 2 days. It doesn't feel like a typical hangover.

Lesson learned :(

Bummer. I'm sorry. I try to stick to just a glass of wine if I'm going to drink. A little doesn't affect me. But I am careful about it and I don't drink alcohol often.

Glad your doing good lately, we all slip sometimes. Me and drinking stopped being friends years ago, it was always a trigger, then again I over did it! Hope your mind clears out and all is well.

I'm sorry you feel so bad. :(

Luckily for me, alcohol doesn't seem to be a trigger. Knock wood.

Thanks guys. I really don't know how to describe it, maybe it's just a bad hangover..who knows..either way..no good. I feel like I've lost chunks of time the past 2 days.

I need to learn to respect my body all the time and stop thinking the occasional indulgence won't make a difference.

I have the exact same thing! To start I thought it was the meds, but now I just don't drink and iv not suffered the "misty head" since I stopped thank goodness. Sucks though, I love beer :(

Yep, been there. The hardest thing I drink is Pepsi! I hope you start to feel better soon :)

Things that suck;

Going to a loud crowded ass bar late night and not being able to drink. When everyone is drunk, sobriety blows. Now I just hang out with my friends outside of the bar scene.

... I kind of sound like an angry old man

Whenever I drink heavily (meaning, more than 3 drinks), the next morning, the previous night is almost completely wiped out for me - even the moments I was sober. I'll remember key bits and pieces, but the details are completely gone. I'm assuming it has to do with my medication.

However, this also happens when I get migraines. The next day, I barely remember anything. Has this happened to anyone?

Being sober when everyone else is drunk is strangely amusing but also incredibly boring. It does suck. However, the drunker they get the more you can use sarcasm without their knowledge, or worry of insulting them. And then suddenly, I feel like the most intelligent person in the room! But the alternative is worse.
Also I have gone to a bar and asked for their best mocktail, and then I had to explain to the bartender what a mocktail was. Sigh.
Plus, when you don't drink you suddenly become the worst designated driver. You can't drink AND you can't drive. Ha ha.
I have found a non-alcoholic beer that I like. I have yet to find a good non-alcoholic wine though.

Dmn: I hope the fog has lifted! Nothing worse than swimming through days.
It's good to find a trigger that you can avoid. Sucks that it's a fun one.

I can usually drink a few glasses of wine without it causing problems. But after drinking at a party I was at this weekend, my low-level cold kicked into high gear, and I've been miserable since. I think the combo of alcohol with seizures or with meds has to be approached with caution. We really are more vulnerable to alcohol's less pleasant side effects, for many reasons.

This! It took a lot of trial and error for me trying to figure out what worked and what didn't. A glass of wine or two is fine. I really don't like much other alcohol, so it's not too bad!

I can have one nice glass of some bourbon with ginger ale. That really gives me a nice relaxed feeling without getting buzzed or having any ill effects.

9 years sober here - and as a recovering alcoholic (sober 5 years longer than I've been having seizures (I think)) I do know that booze affects your body's sodium and potassium levels - and seizures love to play with brain salts. (Aren't seizure meds mostly just different types of salt for the brain?)
I used to drink pickle juice and Slim Fast (not at the same time - yuck) for hangovers.
Pickle juice has high sodium and potassium and Slim Fast has a lot of vitamins and minerals.
Double or triple up on your healthy diet and vitamins around drinking time and it'll help.

I used to drink a 1.75mL

of vodka a day, back in the day...

Thanks again guys, I feel a lot more like myself today. No bar/club scene for me for a while. Glad you were able to overcome that petero.

I know some E meds work by inhibiting your sodium pumps on your neurons, so it makes sense to me :p
I don't start the oxcarbazepine until this weekend. Really not too happy about that.

Yeah I figured out you can't drink the hard way, you end up black out drunk with only a couple of drinks. The only thing you can really get high with is Marijuana. So you can be a stoner I guess but I take it you probably don't want to be that. Warning don't take Topamax with and smoke Marijuana.

HAHAH, I love that quote. When I first got diagnosed and was getting adjusted to my medications and whatnot, I told one of my friends I'd like to hangout because he was going out in a group, and I mentioned I couldn't really drink. He's like "Oh, perfect, you can be the DD then!" I then replied "Oh, and I can't drive." He asked which one would be worse for me to do, and I said driving - obviously a legal issue! Now I drink because it's not a trigger (as long as I don't get wasted and stay hydrated), but still can't drive... hmmmm....
