When i see my daughter (generally at week ends) thats the time when i mostly have a seizure. She was born to a previous relationship which had a messy break up 16 years ago and that was when my szs started. No amount of drugs has done any good, not even a double dose at weekends. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is it all in the mind? When I think its about a week since my last sz "bang" I generally have one that same day!! Is this all in the mind too? If so, how do I stop it?

Stress is a common seizure trigger. Family relationships can be very stressful. Learning how to manage your stress / emotions could be helpful. :twocents:

It is great that you recognize this. Now you can be proactive in changing the course of the seizure activity.

YAY... we have even talked about starting a group to discuss the suggestions in it.
Hope you are up for that.

Hi Pete,

I feel quite strongly about alot of it being 'in the mind', and feel that with channelling thoughts in a different direction, alot of my sz's can be avoided.

For some weird reason, anything that kinda puts me out of my comfort zone/daily regime can kick one off.....but I seriously believe that it's ME that's doing it by panicking. (I know it's quite naughty, but I used to be able to bring 'em on when I was kid - especially on days at school when I didn't want to go ! :paperbag: )

Sometimes we tend to link things or events to cause the 'trigger effect' to our sz's :

kinda like, if such and such happens, I'll have a sz. By believing it, you kinda set yourself up for being hit back down.

Try re-directing the link between seeing your daughter to something else rather than having a sz. I think somewhere in the back of our heads, our 'little voices' are setting us up with negative energy before an 'event' has happened. It's time to take a stand and say NO when this happens

Years ago when I was working, there was a lady "my boss" who sometimes would walk up to me and say "did you have a seizure?' I would say no. and she would say well you look like your'e going to have one today. Bam! At work, I was on the floor have a grand mal. Every Time.

Stress, without a doubt, is a HUGE factor.

For me, a higher level of stress demands a higher level of exercise. I personally exercise by walking or running with my border collie every day.

Is your daughter seeking guidance or is she challenging your advice?

The 'double dosage on weekends' sounds like it might not be a wise idea without a doctor's consent. Maybe it would be a good idea to seek counseling?

I agree it may be the stress. We all stress ourselves in ways we dont realize. Maybe take some time and think about what you do, feel, leading up to her visit. Also maybe add some extra stress relief. Are you rushing? worrying? Maybe an early morning walk, yoga, or just 10 minutes of meditation. I was a divorced parent for many years and understand the stress that comes with it. Its not easy but youre doing GREAT : ) hang in there. Your daughter will be more because of your involvement.
