The past year and a half has been a hard one for my 19 year old daughter with E. She has been hospitalized 5 times with status and had been averaging 4 T/C's per week. Then things started looking up--she hadn't had even one seizure since October 18, 2007! Not even any "twitches". We were so pleased and perhaps lulled into a false sense of security. That had been the longest she had ever gone without seizures in 1 1/2 years! Then BAM, right out of the blue last evening she had 2 T/C's. We did the ER thing with the IV dilantin and the works. It's all so very discouraging.

I am so sorry for your daughter, I know the feeling, kind of I went almost 10yrs without a seizure or medicine, now I'm on super amount of meds, have VNS and still have at least 3 grand mals per week-this week has been 12. Agian so sorry, you'll be in my thoughts.

Ahhhhhh Lisa ~ I'm sorry this has happened. I'll be wishing her the best.

Hi Lisa - so sorry to hear about your daughter. My daughter is 16 dealing with similar issues, though luckily she has only had one status, and avg 4 per month. Have you considered dietary changes? I believe it has helped Rebecca quite a bit. Do you keep a diary or journal?

Give her my best.

I've been on that same merry-go-round with Stacy. Just when you think she's solved the puzzle, you get a reminder that it's not a 100% solution.

Still, I like to consider that increasing periods of time between seizures is heading on the right path.

I am so sorry for what you are going thru. This is what my seizures were like. About once a month now.I have a son who is almost 11 with epilepsy to.So I understand your worry. Teresa

Hi lisab! Welcome to CWE. Sorry to hear about your daughters flare up. I know what it's like. I went for over 10 years without seizures and now they're back....*sigh* Has she considered switching meds? Sometimes a body can become non-responsive to a particular medication.

Im glad to hear things had been going well and am sad youve had a rough week.

My son is 19 and only has grand mals so far. He does well on his meds and can go 15- 18 mos without a seizure then whammo. What Ive found is when this happens hes either not been strict with his meds, overstressed himself, or just generally run down. Has anything changed that would have affected her? Her sleeping habits? Her diet? STress from school? Any major changes?

I wish you both well

Joan, you hit it right on. If i have a seizure these days its either over stress, skipped meds, not eating like I should. I cant believe how much difference that makes.Even good stress can cause a seizure . It's excitement in the brain. Even with my son. I now have noticed when he is around loud noises people talking and so forth he starts to have seizures. My mom would tell me to calm down and breathe. So I still do that to this day when I feel a seizure coming on. It helps me. Good luck. Teresa

With my daughter's myoclonics they said that maybe relaxation techniques may help. A soothing cd, breathing, just getting the head to relax. We have been doing alot of chatting about stress and whats worth worrying about the last few weeks. How to identify when you are starting to stress and trying to stop it. Just hard for most not to worry, but a 16 yo female UGHhh lol studies, sports, boys, girlfriends, hair, makeup, clothes, uggs... all the important things lol Im thinking of starting yoga with her as another alternative for relaxing. We keep trucking.... She still hasnt had any myoclonics since that shot on Friday but the nurse did say it was long acting. Its the longest break from myoclonics shed had in months. We going to go get moniters we can watch and listen to from the PC. If that doesnt make me feel better, we're moving back upstairs.

Hope everyone having a good day

Those things really do work. Sometimes before Alex goes to bed we listen to meditation tapes. We have am and pm.
