Well, here we are with yet another lamictal increase. Paige moved up to 250mg in late August and we are yet to have full control of her morning myoclonics. We called the neuro earlier this week and her blood levels will allow for another increase and we are hopeful that the 300mg will help to have better control of her myoclonics.

My question is ... is it unrealistic to think we will have full control of her morning myoclonics? FYI - Paige is dx'd with JME. I know we need to keep her triggers in check - meds every day, minimum of 8 hours of sleep, low stress, and no alcohol. Am I being too optimistic in thinking she should have better control? She is having myocloincs about twice per week. Some mornings only 1-2 "jerks" and other morning 7-10 "jerks". She is being a trooper but is starting to get frustrated. She worries about waking up every morning :(

Thanks for reading and listening.

No you are not being to optimistic, optimism is what keeps you going and everybody is looking for better control. I am on 300 mg m/n of lamictal and it seems to be working for me so far, I do not have full control of my seizures but I am optimistic. I cannot say I blame her for getting frustrated with all this and even I worry, in truth what is worry going to do for us, more stress - safe bet, none of us know what tomorrow will bring and that can be scary. So worrying about something you have no control over is not going to help only add stress and none of us need that. Be optimistic its the only way then everyday is a surprise and one day that surprise could be the one you want in the mean time keep trying and remain optimistic.

There's a good chance that the the increase in dose will help. If it doesn't, or if it makes them worse, then you would need to take another look at whether Lamictal is the right drug. (Studies have shown that it can exacerbate myoclonic jerks in some people.)

i 500 a day and wondering if i on to much no one seems be on as much as that is it normal dose

There is no "official" dose for lamictal, just a suggested range. The therapeutic dose is whatever does the trick for you. I think that 500mg is at the high end of the range, but is within safe limits, so if it works for you that's fine. If you think might be able to have seizure control on a lower dose, let your doctor know, and ask about tapering down a bit.
